Grietje Cornelis Van Ness daughter of Father: Cornelis Hendrick Van Ness Emigrant of 1641 b. c 1600, d. b Nov 1684 and Mother: Maycke Hendrick Van Der Burchgraeff b. c 1605, d. b 1664 Grietje was named as their child and as the wife of Peter Claessen of Amersfoort, in a document dated 21 March 1664 where Cornelis secured the property for the children of his first wife, Mayeke Hendricx van den Burghgraeff. [1] Grietje Cornelis Van Ness married Peter Claes Wickoff.
Grietje Van Ness from "The Wyckoff Family in America" [2]
Grietje Van Ness, the mother of this great family, should also have consideration. She contributed much to the family she helped to found. Even among the Dutch of that time there were distinctions of station, and she ranked high. Many of the plain people carried no family name. With them there was the coupling of the name of father and child, like Pieter Claesen, meaning Pieter, son of Claes. Others of higher social or property advantages carried a family name from one generation to another. Grietje Van Ness was of this latter class. She was the daughter of Cornelis Hendrick Van Ness and Maycke Hendrieux van der Burchgraeff. Cornelis was the son of Hendrick Gerritse Van Ness of Ameland, Holland.
Maycke was the daughter of Hendrick Adriense van der Burchgraeff and Annetje Janse of Laeckervelt, Holland. These surnames indicate that these families were of high rank and some wealth. The will of Annetje Jans, widow of Hendrick Adriens, dwelling at Laeckervelt, divides her estate between her son and her daughter Maycke, and provides that Maycke shall have the use of this estate during her lifetime, and that it shall then be divided among the six children of said Maycke, whom she names as follows
Gerritie Cornelis, wife of Roeloff Cornelissen
Hendricke Cornelis, wife of Jan Jensen van Dothout
Hendrick
Gerrit
Jan
Grietje Cornelis, wife of Pieter Claesen of Amersfoort, Long Island
Maycke died before her husband, but he carried out her wishes. Thus Grietje Van Ness, when she married Pieter Claesen, brought to him wealth as well as rank. Grietje outlived her husband, who died in 1694. She died between 1699 and 1703, and was buried beside her husband in Flatlands, Long Island.
Pieter Claus Wyckoff married Grietje Van Ness, daughter of Hendrick Van Ness, circa 1649. Children of Pieter Claus Wyckoff and Grietje Van Ness:

Birth
Grietje Van Ness was born:
between 1624 and 1630 Est date 1 JUL 1624 Place: Emberland, , Netherlands or Place: Of Flatbush, Brooklyn, Kings, New York [3][4]
Note: This early date should probably instead apply to the older sister, Gerritje. Mix-216 20:46, 31 August 2014 (EDT)
Marriage
A Hendricks Family supplement shows Grietje married to Pieter Claes Wyckoff. My research shows Claes Cornelissen but I suspect she was married twice. [28]
Note: "Claes Cornelissen" may be confused with Roeloff Cornelissen van Houten, who was the husband of Grietje's older sister, Gerritje. Mix-216 20:46, 31 August 2014 (EDT)
Note: these 1689 dates are wrong, as confusion with the death date of the older sister Gerritje in Jersey City, New Jersey. Mix-216 20:46, 31 August 2014 (EDT)
Burial
Flatlands Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery

Can we get a review of her birth location. Plotting the location of her parents birth's, death's and marriage suggests her birth location is odd. Thanks.
Which of the numerous suggested birthplaces are you finding odd? (This profile seems to be a mess of bits that were concatenated from duplicate profiles created by gedcom imports...)
Ugh..There is a lot to sort through and I am not familar with records from the Netherlands. One point to start with is the marriage of her parents is 1625 in Vianen, (Zuid-Holland), Utrecht, Nederland. She is currently recorded as being born 20 Aug 1624 in Laecherveld, Nederland. That makes both her birthdate and that of Gerritje suspect without having reviewed the documentation. Also, the location of her parents marriage in 1625 is about 80 miles from her reported birth location. That seems unlikely but I really do not have a good sense for the likelyhood of this happening at that time in those locations. Really, I supose that a review of sources, death, marriage, birth is in order for each of her siblings and parents is needed to clean up merge messes before we can claim anything.
Ugh, indeed. The sources list here impresses me as a shrine to the worship of dubious Ancestry.com databases. This is a popular family to be descended from and it appears in many family trees -- for evidence of that, check out the Acknowledgments list on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Van_Nes-28 (her father).
It looks like there is some decent documentation for her marriage and children. The best clue to the early life part of her profile seems to be the will that connects her to her parents, coupled with the information about her parents in the Van Rensselaer Bowier Manuscripts (see the profile for her father for more on that). I think Vlanen is a good guess for her birth place, based on the identification of the parents.
Sometimes these New Netherland marriage records indicate where in the Netherlands the person was from, but that does not seem to be the case here.
Removed 'spouse' Peter Schenck because she probably was not his wife. (need more sources and his patronymic is still unknown) Did find a baptism and siblings for Peter Schenck in Amersfoort though.
Van Ness-125 and Van Ness-32 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest maternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge. No tree conflicts. These matches have been reviewed by the New Netherland Settlers Merge Approval System, and the "Green" destination NNS profile is protected as PPP, and the "Merge Pending" profile is now ready and able to be merged into it. I saved the data to the bios. Disregard the alternate death September 11, 1689 because that date instead belongs to her sister Gerritje in Jersey City, it is sourced on her gravestone as I recall, and these data points have been conflated between these sisters repeatedly in the numerous source trees. Thanks!
Van Ness-136 and Van Ness-32 appear to represent the same person because: By the marriage date, I think it is clear that she was intended to be the same as this woman, but with a confused husband. He can either be detached or merged away later into the correct husband, but let's merge her profile into the established NNS PPP, to get rid of this pointless match. Thanks!

I saved the data to the bios. This match has a marriage date March 1645 which is worth keeping, and it also appears to be a 1645/1646 double date from the olde calendar, which explains the 1646 date on the other profile. So I would inclied to eventually keep it as March 1646, because that would match the majority of months in the later part of the year by our modern calendar. Thanks!

1) Gerritie Cornelis Van Ness : This instead is the name of the older sister. This woman who married Pieter Claesz Wyckoff was named Griteje. I am going to change the name before merge to avoid confusion.
2) Born about 1624 in Of Flatbush, Brooklyn, Kings, New York : That early date seems more for the older sister Gerritje, than this Grietje, born 1627. And Brooklyn is unlikely.
3) Died September 11, 1689 in Flatlands, Aermsfoot, Long Island, Ny. The 1689 date is for the older sister Gerritje, who died and is buried in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Despite these confusions from the original import, I left the profile as a match for Grietje, because she seems to have husband and child attachments for the Pieter Wyckoff line, and not for Gerritje's NJ van Houtens

The Brouwer genealogy database, where she is profiled at http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~brouwergenealogydata/genealogy/p676.htm#i23845 , is usually an insightful source.
