Biography

William was born on 1 or 5 May 1762 in Montpelier, Orange County, Virginia, the sixth of twelve children and the fifth of eight sons of James Madison and Eleanor Rose Conway Madison.
On 20 December 1783, when he was twenty-one, William married Frances Throckmorton in Orange County and they had eleven children, including the following three sons and two daughters:
  1. Rebecca Conway (Madison) Chapman
  2. John Madison
  3. Robert Lewis Madison
  4. Ambrose Madison
  5. Eliza (Madison) Willis.
On 19-20 July 1843, at the age of eighty-one William died of unknown causes at Montpelier, Orange County, Virginia.

Some of us believe that William and Frances had another daughter, Ann Alvis Madison, born 1809 in Granville Co, NC. She married James Abel and lived and died in MS.
