This person is an ancestor of President Abraham Lincoln. [1]
Ann Linney was baptized December 26, 1603 at Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire, England; the daughter of Floris Linney and his wife Helen (Benson) Linney.[2]
On November 24, 1626 at Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire, Ann married Thomas Jones who is probably the same as the Thomas Jones baptized at Caversham on January 23, 1602/3; the son of Roger Jones.[2] He was a tailor by trade.[3]
In April 1638, Ann and her husband Thomas Jones immigrated to New England on the ship Confidence, along with four underage children.[4] Those children who sailed with them were Abraham, Sarah, John, and possibly Hannah. Fellow passengers on the ship were John Benson of Caversham, his wife Mary Benson, and children John and Mary who settled in Hingham; these may have been related to Helen (Benson) Linney, Ann's mother.[2] Two servants, William Baunche and Jude Denley accompanied the Jones family on their transatlantic journey.[4]
The family settled in Hingham where Ann's husband was a proprietor in 1638.[5] Her last three children were born there.[2]
Ann (Linney) Jones died about 1650, probably at Hull, Massachusetts Bay Colony or possibly Hingham. Her husband was married two additional times; secondly to Abigail (unknown surname) Sumner, Ellithorpe in 1657 and then, thirdly, to Elizabeth whose surname is not known. Thomas Jones died before March 9, 1680/1 at Manchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[2]
Children of Thomas and Ann (Linney) Jones:[2][3]
This profile has been detached from Abel Greenwood and Elizabeth Mitchell as parents due to lack of evidence. The birth place of Halifax West Riding, Yorkshire, England has also been removed.
Note: The Ann associated with Thomas Jones with rumored maiden name Heywood/Haywood or Cowdrie is associated with Thomas Jones-3291 (as his wife). This profile was detached as mother of Thomas Jones-38155. ~ Noland-165 22:38, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
1. The first child of this couple may have been "Maria Johnes filia Thome Johnes" who was buried Henley on Thames, 14 November 1627.[7] The following is a post-publication comment from author Robert Battle: "I wonder if Threlfall took the baptism in Caversham of "Marie Johns d [?Nicolas]" on 26 Sep 1627 as that of a daughter of Thomas, as this would account for him claiming that there were three baptisms of Thomas Jones's children in the Caversham PRs. My article relied on a transcription of the Caversham PRs which gives the entry as noted here, but perhaps Threlfall (or a researcher hired by him) was able to view the original PRs and thought that the father in this entry was Thomas. There would be no chronological problems for a child to be born to Thomas and Ann (Linney) Jones in September 1627 (they had been married 10 months earlier, and their next child Abraham was baptized about 13 months after this Mary). She may very well have been the Mary Jones, daughter of Thomas, who was buried in Henley on Thames in November 1627 (see note 19)."[8]
2. There is uncertainty about the birth order of daughter Hannah.[2]

Robert Battle, author of NEHGR article "The Identity of Ann, Wife of Thomas Jones of Hingham, Hull, and Manchester, Massachusetts" indicates in his article that the LNAB of Thomas Jones' wife Ann, should be "Linney," daughter of Floris and Helen (Benson) Linney of Henley of Thames, Oxfordshire, England. Also (if I am correctly understanding the article and the comment below) that this couple may have had a daughter Mary, born 1627, (before Abraham) who died young. (see footnote #19). Note that the birth order of the children on this profile needs to be updated since it differs from Battle's research of the records in England.
Project Leader, please see comments from Robert Battle (below).
Find the article here: [1]. I'm having difficult finding it at American Ancestors, perhaps because it was published recently in 2022.
This profile and that of her husband and children are updated with most current research by Robert Battle. Some work will probably need to be done in the biographies of children when Ann's LNAB is changed to Linney, which I will do.

Ann
At the bottom of the page in article by Robert Battle there is notation, NEHGR 176:369-373 (Fall 2022), so in biography, for the citation, I'll use that without a link; will also include the free pdf link.
Hopefully all's well with our little WT world, Bobbie... :) Thanks.
Ann
For now, will you look over the biography and fix anything that is incorrect or misleading? I think you're the "elephant in the room" who knows most about this family. Thanks... (no offense intended).
That "Mary Jones was buried in Henley, not born there" is the only one of the 3 fixes that I'm having problem with. In my review of research notes, I'm not finding any place where it says that Mary Jones was born in Henley... I only find two "buried in Henley..."
It's ok to wait until you have access to your computer, then reply to this comment. I have other work I can do.

Lance, here is the page for reliable sources for PGM project profiles: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Puritan_Great_Migration_Project_Reliable_Sources
I created this profile because Unk-95338 was in Southern Colonies project with data that didn't match.
I will create profiles for their children, later. Jones-52361 is one of their children - needs work before attaching.
Jones-37242 is a child of their son Abraham and his wife Ann - should be detached as child of Thomas and Ann.
