  • First hand information.

I am adopted. My biological parents were not married to each other. Sumner is my biological maternal lineage. At this time I do not know who my biological father is. I was given a possible name but not sure if its true. Will persue this but not untill I take a DNA test. Hopefully to be done by end of 2021. At birth my name was: Shawna Kay Sumner. At adoption it was changed to Shawna Alexandra Czene. I married into the Landry surname. My adoptive parents allowed me at age 3 to pick and change my middle name. I chose Alexandra. I later chose this name as my 1st born daughter's name. My adoptive parents are Robert George Czene and Kathleen Lenore Houghton(Czene).

      • I switch back and forth between my adoptive parents and my biological parents information on my profile. If you want to see either one message me and I will switch it back for you.***

I've always been interested in genealogy. Possibly because of being adopted and wanting to find my roots. I have an older half-sister Michelle that passed away at age 17 and 3 younger half-sisters who have different fathers. I also had one half-brother that died at birth. I have 15 nieces/nephews and 3 great-nieces and one great nephew. I currently switch back and forth between my biological and adoptive trees to input information. I was born and raised in the State of Michigan, USA. Someday I would like to travel to places of my ancestors which includes Connecticut, Massachusetts, England/Europe area,Texas,New Mexico and Mexico. Most of my maternal biological ancestors come from England. I was married and have 2 girls but I later divorced.

I love working on my genealogy and do so in my spare time. I love finding new people and new connections. In September of 2020 I have found out that I am related in some way or another to most of the United States Presidents. I am also related to 5 of the 7 wiki-tree team. I am related to Actors Kevin Bacon, Raymond Burr, Peter Falk, John Ryan, Aristotelis Savalas either by blood or by marriage. I have done some research on my family lines that go back to the 1100's and am painstakingly trying to source them. My biological mom had done some genealogy as far back as the 1500's but did not source them before she passed away. So now I am doing so but it will take time to source them all but in the meantime I'm still working on other parts of my tree and trying to source them as well as I input new profiles.

      • As of February 2022 I have narrowed down my search in finding my biological father. I have DNA matched with a 1st cousin. I am currently building my paternal family tree. This side of the family is huge. I will add this information into my tree on here once it is determined by DNA who my biological father is. I have narrowed it down to 2 people.***

I plan to write a beginners book or guide on doing genealogy in my spare time.

      • Received Ancestry DNA kit for Christmas 2020. Will send in asap. Results to be posted when they come in within the next few months.***
      • Finally sent in Ancestry DNA kit Christmas 2021. Awaiting DNA results. Will post results when they come in.***
      • Recieved Ancestry DNA results. Currently figuring results out. Only got them 2 days ago on 29 Jan 2022. Will post when I know more and can figure relationships out.***
      • Uploaded Ancestry DNA 18 Feb 2022. User name: hagenforever7778***
      • Have narrowed down to 2 people of whom one is my biological dad. Will be doing dna test to DNA confirm. Results to follow. ***
      • Almost positive of who my biological father is just need DNA to confirm. His family comes from Michigan,Texas,New Mexico and Mexico area.***
      • As of April 2024 I am currently working on my biological paternal family tree. It's on ongoing process and will add on here as I learn the information. I originally had a wrong branch of the tree listed here so now am adding the right one.***

Hi Shawna,

Thanks for having a Big Heart and taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. You will want to read this After Adopting Orphans as it explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. You may also want to go through the new member help on How to manage your Watchlist.

Hello Shawna ,

We are happy you came back to the Northwest Terriers for April's Connect-a-thon. As of this writing, you have contributed 10 profiles. Join us on the Discord channel or the G2G Team Chat page for any questions, comments, or just for fun chatting.

Remember, you must have at least one valid source for each profile you create. The source is the identification of where you obtained information. A family tree is not a source.

See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Sources for the methods used for sourcing if needed.

Scoring results can be found here.

Thanks for your help!!

Hi Shauna,

The link for the template for the Connect-a-thon is: Connect-a-Thon Template. Go down to the EXAMPLES section. Copy the code from the left side for the template you want to show on your profile into your profile. Change the text as needed. Use quotation marks around the "Northwest Terriers" part of the name. I tried it out and it worked fine. If you have any issues, let me know.

I tried but it didn't do it right. See my profile for what it did when I tried to do it. I dont know what I did wrong.

The code for the four options for templates are as follows: Change the wording between the | to show the current information. Put { { before the Connect-a-Thon and } } at the end without the space between them. The code doesn't show as code otherwise, but changes it to the sticker.

Shawna, I stumbled across a Sumner line and added

to several profiles. This line originated in England and migrated to Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1635. All profiles are well sourced. Happy hunting!

Hi Shawna,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Amy, Joan & Lizzie.

Sorry guys. Haven't been on much in the last 2-3 months. Dealing with some personal issues. Hopefully in January I will be able to be on here more and be able to accomplish a lot more in here. Sorry for not responding sooner.

Hi, Shawna. I've been asked to take over mentoring you on pre-1700 profiles as Azure has been reassigned to other things. I've sent you a private message and look forward to hearing from you.

In need of a mentor to help with my dna. Can you help me I know you were asked to help with pre-1700 profiles. I still plan to do that. Just in a couple of months. I already uploaded my dna to here but not sure of my next step. Need some guidance on this matter. If you can't please connect me with someone that can please. But when I am ready for those pre-1700 profiles I will get back to you. Thank you.

Shawna, Regarding your recent creation of Mary Clement (Bricknail) Sumner and William Sumner, both pre-1500 profiles: they must have much higher quality sources. What source points to her being born in Scotland? Where is their marriage recorded? Neither she nor her husband have any reliable sources. Please review Help: Pre-1700 Profiles and Help: Pre-1500 Profiles.

Hi Debi. I have a question. I have adopted some profiles and was wondering if their is a way to find or a list of my adopted profiles?
posted by Shawna (Sumner) Landry
Hi Shawna,

Probably the fastest way to find the ones you adopted would be to your contributions page (My WikiTree menu > Contributions) and change the count to 500. Then you can use your browser search function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to look for the word "adopted."

Hi Shawna,

I noticed your note about being adopted. Did anyone share the special page created to help Adoptees set up their profiles? It explains lot of options that you have and how to get some additional help.

Got a question or two. Profiles have a spot to upload pics, is this only for pics of people or could I upload a pic of their gravestone there? Also is a pic of a gravestone considered a source. Thanks for your consideration of these questions I have.

Hi Shawna,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles#Cite_reliable_sources).

Hi Shawna,

This is a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far? Have the tips in the New Member How-Tos been helpful?

Please do let me know if you have any questions about how WikiTree works, no matter how small. My rule of thumb when I started was to search for an answer for five minutes, then reach out to my Greeters, and then resume searching. I might have found the answer before they got back with me but they sometimes offered a different way of doing the same thing which was easier.

You can reach me by using the reply link for this comment or send a private message from my profile by clicking my name. See you in the branches,

Debi ~ WikiGreeter

P.S. Did you discover that the tags on your profile are clickable links to a page of other people who have that tag? They also control the information which is included in the activity reports which you receive from WikiTree. You can add more, up to 20 total, or delete some if you are receiving irrelevant information.

It is my honor to say to someone who has such a nice name that you are now confirmed! : ) I really like your name, Shawna. It reminds me of someone I knew who was very friendly and I am sure you are too and you are going to like this site as much as I do, as it is a lot of fun and there are tons of great people collaborating on surnames in including the Sumner surname.

Shawna you have a really lovely name. Have fun growing your tree.

First, make sure you check out our New Member How-To pages. They will save you time learning our system: New Member How-To pages. As a recommendation, you may want to edit your tags to show the the region where you are researching surnames. The clickable tags we follow and the comments we make about them at WikiTree help us collaborate with other members. Your Wiki Genealogy Feed will show the activity connected to the surnames and places relating to your tags. This link may help you Tags.
