G2G: Father of Rev William Newlands, MA Glasgow 1815

Question

Rev. William Newlands (licentiate of the Church of Scotland located in London in the 1830s) graduated MA from Uni. Glasgow 1815.

I'm working on his profile yet to be uploaded to WT.

Addison in his Roll of Graduates (1898) reproduced the following from the Matriculation Album for 1809:

7867  GULIELMUS  NEWLANDS  f:  n:  max:  Jo:  Art:  Glasg:  n:   M.A.  1815.

Could someone confirm that f: n: max: means filius natu maximus

And thence that William's father was named Jo. = Johannes

Could his father be this John Newland ?

John Newlands (1762 – 1738) married Isobella Walkinshaw – 7 children have been identified (Rev.) William Newlands (1786 – 1859), John Newlands (1790 – 1840), Maureen McVicar Newlands (1790 – 1837), Isobel Newlands (1792 – ),  Janet Newlands (1793 – ), Mary Wark (Newlands) (1797 – 1863), and James Newlands (1807 – 1846)

Thanks Lesley, that's what I'm seeking to confirm. I'm aware of both the Newlands-joy-generations blog, and also the Woods Family site. I'm looking for the primary sources (BDM sources, wills, testaments, legal docs etc. Neither of these two family trees seem to list primary sources.

ps there's a typo in John Newlands date of death. It should be 1838

For what it's worth, Neil, he doesn't appear in volume 7 of Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae https://archive.org/details/fastiecclesiaesc07scot/page/n5/mode/2up (covering Endland) which is the standard reference work for Church of Scotland both within Scotland and in England and Overseas

Thanks Sheena, Fasti has several Rev Newlands, but not William licensed around 1815-20. I have now found John Newslands Will & Testament and his Inventory in the Glasgow Commissary Court. William is mentioned as "minister of the Gospel in London". It mentions other family members so I've advanced considerably.
