I am lucky and was able to find my family's home village.
My grandmother's father, Frank Czlonka, came from the Ulanów, Poland area. Her mother, Mary Rzeszutek came from Zaczernie, Poland.
Ancestry updated their DNA Ethnicity Estimates maps today. It may help you to narrow down parish records for your family if all else fails. I checked my Ethnicity Estimate and it indicated 18% Eastern Europe (some of my Polish ancestors were German settlers during the Josephine Colonization) and highlighted Northern Subcarpathia (purple area below). I include below a map with their starred villages. The diameter of the purple blob is approximately 40 miles. You can see how even DNA Ethnicity data can help narrow your search. Is Ancestry just mapping data I provided? Or are the tools this good? I would be curious what others see.
