Harold Richard Backstrom was my father’s father, Richard Elwood Backstrom, Sr. I never met him, nor do I know if my dad did. I would like to find more information, possible health issues in the family tree and a photo to see if their is a family resemblance.

I cannot help with a picture, sorry.

I do wonder why you want to remove a verified wife of his from your family tree.  First, there is record of the marriage, her name appears with him on the 1930 census, and on a Find a Grave page.  It also looks like there may be a child, Wayne Backstrom.

Second, WikiTree is one big tree, there is no ʻmy treeʻ.

When they do a deep dive into a famous person and how they are related to you and your tree they show Gladys Gilliam in my tree and pull relatives from her, not my blood relations. Maybe there is a work around for this. Thank you for the information on Harold and the copy of his obituary. My dad looked like him in his later years and did die from his fourth heart attack in 2000.

Are you thinking of the Connections here on WikiTree?  That is set up to show how you are connected to anyone else here and so it shows connections by marriage.  Its a connection, not a relationship as you notice.

When you get to the page that shows your Connection to a famous person, if you scroll down you will see several ways to change the connection (it is set for Shortest), you can select Common Ancestor, Paternal, Maternal, even Descendant.

I hope this helps.
