G2G: Newt Hunter-31174 ... brickwall ancestor I'm looking for the father of William Samuel Hunter

My great-great grandfather was William Samuel Hunter, who supposedly was born in Kentucky in 1826 and was buried in Gonzales, TX, in 1875.  If it helps at all, my Y-DNA results, along with those of some other Hunters, strongly suggests that I'm descended from Andrew Hunter (b. 1700, Hannover County, VA) or  one of his brothers.

Here's a link to William Samuel's wikitree profile:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hunter-24177. I added some sources and some research notes about which children were likely from his first wife.

And here's a link for an Andrew Hunter, b. 1700 in Hanover, Virginia: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hunter-4929

I didn't see any clues to WIlliam S. Hunter's parents or any other Hunters of similar age from Kentucky who lived in Gonzales, Texas at the same time. But perhaps someone else will spot something.

The other approach would be to follow and expand all the "Hunter" lines descending from Andrew and brothers.

Liz, I'm new to WikiTree -- and genealogy -- and I don't know exactly how to reply to your answer, so I'm trying the "comment" option.

Thank you for your info.  It's consistent with what I've seen elsewhere, although I think William S. Jr. and Thomas Ann (my grandfather) were children of his first wife, Grace Ann Davis Hunter, while the rest were children of his second wife, Martha Miller Hunter.  I should add that I've also seen some speculation that William S. my have been married in Kentucky before he moved to Texas.

I've seen many public trees on Ancestry and elsewhere that plug in a James Marion Hunter as William Samuel's father, but none of these trees provide any supporting evidence.  So I think you're right; I'll have to try working my way down from Andrew and his brothers.

Best,

Dan Hunter
