Nor'Easters are in the house ready to take this thon like a storm. So just to clarify the rules, the profile-a-thon will concentrate on adding profiles to families that got skipped over. Brothers, sisters, children, etc. This will umm, what did you say? Connect-a-thon??? So I guess we will work on getting isolated branches and people connected to the main tree. I'm sure we have plenty to uhhhhhh really? ok. Gotcha!!!

So, the Connect-a-thon is where we concentrate on adding profiles to families that got skipped over. Brothers, sisters, children, etc. Think Census info, Birth Marriage & Death records, Wills, etc. This MAY connect people but by all means try to avoid making duplicate profiles if you can avoid it.

Registration is now closed. We have 34 members and most are raring to go. Feel free to check out the spreadsheet link and if you need help understanding how to use it, check out these 2 videos for a basic understanding.

And above all, have fun!!!

I cannot participate in the connect-a-thon, as I will not have internet access those days. However, I have a profile that I would love to have your help with. Wm. D. Miller. This is not a relative of mine, but a person that was buried (not in a cemetery) near where I live (northern California). He was born in Maine. I found records of 2 people who might be brothers of his, as they registered to vote at the same location on the same day, have the same last name, and were also from Maine. I have not made them profiles, as I have no proof they are related. Maybe you guys can find their family in Maine?

Not sure if you saw my answer or not about joining the connect-a-thon for July. Haven't seen an acceptance yet.

Sarah
Look at #14 in the list below. :)

G'day, g'day .. as time draws closer to the 'thon just dropping by to wish you happy connecting from the Wizards of Aus (aka Team Australia)!  Are you all as excited as we are?

Hoping to wizard up a storm this weekend!

Look at his profile. I added what I found on americanancestors.com. Feel free to delete this info, though...there are a lot of william millers in that database.
I did not see any additions. Are we talking about the same William David Miller? https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Miller-37788

In the front row of the spreadsheet are links to unconnecteds and also to "needs profiles created" which means there is information IN that profile like a census that contains spouses, siblings, parents, or children already. Once you make the profiles for those sources, please remove that category.

Since I couldn't do my Gedcom, I'm working on one of the people I adopted. Taking longer then I had hoped, but getting several generations in with all marriages and children that go with the parents and children. And it was one of the profiles on the Unconnected List also.

Quick question though, where do we go to see how many we have actually gotten in?

Try here

Or look for tracking progress on Connect-a-thon page

or if you used the spreadsheet you would find in the top section links called "status changes by team (detailed)" and "status changes by user". Those work too.
Thank you!
If it's ok with everyone else, I'd like to start at the top.of New Hampshire's unsourced list and work my way down.

Let's hope this is the only Nor'Easter we'll see for the rest of this year!

Good luck everyone!

This is my first project, and I am excited!  I've been reading everything I can to be prepared.  Why are there two lists of team members?  And is there a way to get notifications for comments or communication?  I usually have my head buried in research and don't see messages.  Thanks.
There are 2 lists because it was too long to be put as 1 list with the links intact. As far as reading everything, I hope everyone finds their way to the spreadsheet. Often during the "thons" I keep the spreadsheet up and in a separate window all the way to the right side of the screen with the spreadsheet chat open. That way we can chat there.

Don't forget to check out the "INFO" tab on the spreadsheet for added tips and resources.

ONE HUGE CLARIFICATION

I know many of us will be adding siblings and children from census data. And I know the easy solution is if you have the census link for say the father, to just copy it to all the children. The problem is technically that is a source for the father with mention of the child. If you click the child's name IN that source it will often give you the source for the child for you to use. Not as fast I know, but much more accurate and proper.

Excellent reminder. Thanks!

Thanks, Steve. But is this really HUGE? :-)

If I understand you, you're talking about the easy copy-and-paste source references provided when using FamilySearch. I know those will reference the person you started with, but if someone clicks over to check your source later, it wouldn't be hard for them to find the other person in the family.

And Chris steps in to burst my melodramatic moment. No, it isn't earth-stopping, but it is the proper way instead of just copying the citation for the father and throwing it on all the kids from a survey. Or even doing that with a FAG memorial that lists other children there. But it was worth an attention getting mention. ;)
You are correct, sir.

I'm having a fun time following trails of FamilySearch sources for Maine families this morning (Whitten to Braddock). This challenge is a great excuse to indulge the instinct to go down otherwise-irrelevant rabbit holes. What fun.
I am now working hard at hardly working while being careful to watch that death date so they don't go unlisted on me. Doing Wakefields, Dudleys, and Kaines back to about 1870 and hit no pre-existing profiles yet. My G/F's whole family was missing. LOL
Adding children of ancestors here. Charles Hatch had 14 children! Only one existed before today.

I'm ready to get started. Anybody else starting early?

Where will you be starting? I think I will work on some of the unconnected people in my Watchlist, i.e. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Unconnected
I know some of mine have virtually no relatives because they were added as a friend or when working from a source, or they were added as a family member who was later disconnected because of further research.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm off and running.

Woohoo!

A while back I created a profile for a famous Fuller, and for today, for the 'thon, I created his parents and three brothers. Then I found his father's parents with profiles already created! Fully Connected!

I will be working primarily on profiles with, or related to, the Southwick family.
by Susan Hughes G2G6 Mach 4 (46.0k points)

I have a Southwick I could use some help on. Elsy Southwick, a Quaker, probably from NY. She was my 4-greats grandmother, but I have been able to find hardly any documentation for her, nor have I any clue as to who her parents or siblings were.

Congratulations on weathering the Connect-A-Thon. It was a big success adding many profiles to the tree and we had lots of fun. We also now have a huge spotify playlist to listen too while working on WikiTree. We were glad to have you onboard in the effort.

Apologies, teammates - I wound up with extra work shifts over the weekend (a good thing) so I was unable to do anything to help ya'll out during the Connect-A-Thon (a bad thing). Maybe next year . . . . or next one, whichever comes first!
by Robin Kabrich G2G6 Mach 4 (47.6k points)
Don't feel too bad. Life comes first. And it attacked me leaving only 2 nights to work. You will hit it next time. :D
Thanks! But I did want y'all to know I didn't just flake out on you. I was looking forward to doing some research etc. Been too little time for it lately!
