Biography
Birth
Marinus was born on the 28th of October, 1908, in Utrecht, and he was a son of Antonie Cornelis de Nijs and Odilia Fritz[1].
The translation of his birth certificate reads as follows:
On this day the thirtieth day of October, nineteen hundred and eight, we, the undersigned Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages of the city of Utrecht, appeared in the house of the municipality:
Doctor Hendrik Verploegh, semi physician, aged twenty-seven years, living here at the Biltstraat, who declared to us, that on the twenty-eighth of this month at seven o'clock in the evening in his presence Odilia Fritz, without profession, housewife of Antonie Cornelis de Nijs, railroad employee, living here at the Weteringstraat, gave birth to a child of the male gender, who will be given the name Marinus, the father being unable to make the declaration himself.
This declaration was made in the presence of Carl Furchtegott Bles, aged thirty-seven years, and Johannes van Engelenburg, aged sixty years, messengers, both living here, of which we have taken up this deed and read it to the declarant and the witnesses, who have signed with us.

He passed away on the 31st of March, 1909, in Utrecht, at the age of 5 months[3].

On this day, the first of April, nineteen hundred and nine, we, the undersigned Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages of the city of Utrecht, appeared in the house of the municipality:
Benjamin van Steenwijk, undertaker's assistant, age forty-three years, and Gerrit Buisman, messenger, age thirty-seven years, both residing here, who declared to us that on the thirty-first of the previous month, at one o'clock at night, in the age of five months, died:
Marinus de Nijs, born in Utrecht, son of Antonie Cornelis de Nijs, worker, and of Odilia Fritz, without occupation, both living in this city at the Weteringstraat.
