I have been doing genealogy for over 30 years. Getting older now and want to continue documentation and further my own line and document my husbands Line. Also interested in pursuing my Italian Heritage. I have ordered a dna test from CRI and have the results. I need help using them. I alway like a challenge. I wrote a newsletter for 25 years on the Gillam surname, and would be glad to share that data in some way. Evenually I intend to send everything to the Family History Library in Salt lake. I live in Canada and before Covid wintered in Arizona. I am retired, I have lots of time and would like to take the time to connect with others virtually.

Please check your suggestions list (it is on the My Wikitree drop down menu) before orphaning any profiles.

Two of our team members have have been nominated to be RAWKed in February, Stephen Tomaszewicz and Dave Stern. It would be wonderful if they both got picked. Hi Team Mid-Atlantic!

The January Connect-a-Thon is coming up shortly, 8 AM EST, Friday January 13th to 8 AM EST Monday, January 16th.

The rules are simple. You need to start from an existing profile and add family to it, parents, children. (If you have siblings to add, add the parents first.) It must have at least one source.

You get a point for each profile you create. You do not have to use the challenge tracker or count--the system will do it automatically. Avoid creating profiles for living people as they will not count.

There is a lnk for the challenge tracker on our team page; https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Team_New_York

Our team chats on Discord. These are the instructions for setting it up are here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Discord

To get to know your team mates and make sure you can get into Discord and our team chat, try posting a picture of something in your home town without any explanation. And, the others can try to guess where it is. This is just for fun and not required!

If you don't want to use Discord or have problems with it, you can send a pm to either Lucy or me with any questions.

Hi

Thanks so much for being a member of the Mid-Atlantic Team for the April Connectathon. It was a fun and productive weekend. We added 3,716 profiles to Wikitree between the two teams and had 49 people participate. Considering many of us can’t stop at just one source, we may never make the top ten, but we did great!

Mindy usually sends out a wrap up message in which she mentions how to delete from your watchlist profiles you do not want to continue to manage. Can I make a request, wait until tomorrow before you do this, and then can you check your suggestion list and see if there are any typos that need to be corrected. We don’t want to add to the data doctors’ work.

See you next thon Mickey

Hi Mary,

Have you considered participating in one of WikiTree's Connect-A-Thons? It's a great opportunity to add new profiles, whether they are extended family members or someone who fits into of one of your projects. The next one will run from Friday, April 22nd to Monday, April 25th.

I want to personally invite you to join the Mid-Atlantic Team because of your Pennsylvania roots and your interest in Pennsylvania cemetery research. If you are interested in participating, you can sign up in the G2G forum registration post (https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1392037) and add another badge to your collection. You are not limited to adding profiles for only this region, of course. Hope you'll consider joining the fun!

Hello Mary,

Thank you for the information on Joshua Poteete. He is the grandfather of my high school friend Peggy. I am using the information you gave me to improve his profile. If I find any information on John Issac, I will let you know.

Hi ther MA

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz

As pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects coordinating them is essential. Please ensure location data matches dates of the profile, avoid abbreviations, add citations & links for sources to support the data. From wiki ID go to Research to find sources. I noticed you have left messages and edited some profiles - please provide a source when you do this. Some references for a source you left are incomplete. Please review the following :

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Sources

The CANADA Project would be of interest. Adding the tag CANADA will provide updates on the project.  Follow this link for your Tags:   your tags

I read your note, and I want to say that I know WikiTree appears more complicated than, say, Ancestry. I have had accounts in both places, and in FamilySearch, but I like WikiTree's approach best - it's old fashioned genealogy where we add proof to every fact added, one piece at a time. We're not just adding unsupported "Hints" from unknown sources. As a former teacher, I like the slow addition of facts (well-supported) to flesh out someone's life story. As a journalist, this must appeal to you, too.

In about six months, when you're an old pro, I'd like to invite you to consider becoming a volunteer greeter. It's a commitment of about an hour a week, and it's fun. :)

Anyway, just saying, "Hi." Sometimes we get going so fast that we don't stop to greet each other properly.

Welcome back, M.A.! You are now a Family Member -- your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together!

Start with the New Member How-To pages — they are really useful as you add profiles and learn your way around.

Have a look at the Get Started with DNA page for info about adding your DNA results.

DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. To get the best results, you need to start with yourself and add sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to existing profiles in WikiTree. 24 hours later, your test will have populated on the profiles of your ancestors and their descendants, where others with potential matches may also appear.

Have a look at the GEDcom help pages. You should find useful info about uploading your tree. One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that many members have found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

If you have any questions, please ask. I am happy to help! If I can't answer, I will help you find someone who can.
