Early Ballou Family of Virginia ??

In reviewing project-managed/protected profiles related to the US Southern Colonies project, I came across the profile of William Ballou.  His death location in the data fields says Massachusetts, but the narrative says Virginia. And his wife and children are Virginia.

I'm having trouble finding anything real about him and this family.  His narrative also makes reference to a Maturin Ballou (and a book about Maturin's descendants) that don't seem to have anything to do with this William.

Can you help us figure out who this person is, what documents describe him, etc.?  Would really appreciate some help here. Thanks!

Have you seen An Elaborate History and Genealogy of the Ballous in America? I didn't look at it; just found it while browsing.

there are 2 sets of this family

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ballowe-11

on Ballowe-11, you'll see a daughter Elizabeth who married Daniel Croom

the Croom family was closely connected to the Bolling family and extensive research has been done on it. Most research has determined that Daniel Croom's wife was Elizabeth Michaux, daughter of Abraham. After Abraham's death, 1717, the lands his sons inherited were joined with Croom's.
Jim Parish, yes, I saw that book. It has info about Maturin, but not, apparently, about William of Virginia.
Eddie, could you perhaps place a comment on Elizabeth's profile linking to sources that indicate the wife of Daniel Croom was Elizabeth Michaux, not Elizabeth Ballou?
I do NOT touch profiles for ANY reasons

7 that's SEVEN MIRs have been filed against me since I joined 3 years ago .

I will help with research . I will not create or edit profiles.

That's why I quit working on the Holocaust Project last summer.
Okay, then (pooh... sorry to hear that)... could you share the source here, then?

The Huguenot Abraham Michaux and Descendants

J. D. Eggleston
The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography
volume 45
serialized through issues 2-4

Okay, I just read through that, and I find no mention of Elizabeth, daughter of Abraham Michaux, marrying Daniel Croom. Abr. did have a daughter Elizabeth, but he has her marrying Sanborn Woodson.

 Dunno then

read it somewhere

With my writer group today, Thursday and Friday

just answering email dings today

can probably dig for Croom on Saturday cool

Wow - that profile is a random collection of details/

I am a descendant of Maturin Ballou, who lived in Rhode Island in the late-1600s.  Long story short - there have been numerous attempts to make that case that Maturin is the son of "William Ballou and Margery Fellows" - as these individuals can allegedly be traced back in to William the Conquerer in England.

The problem is that there is no evidence whatsoever to connect Maturin to these parents.  As such, I would strongly caution you to look for original sources behind any claims that William Ballou is the son of William and Margery.

There are several researchers who have looked into the Ballou/Ballew families of Virginia over the years.  Here is a book that a man self-published in 1997:

https://books.google.com/books/about/The_Ballou_Ballowe_Ballew_Etc_Family.html

by Ray Jones G2G6 Pilot (162k points)

refers to this

Jean C. Merchant
J. Hamlin, 1997
William Ballowe was born in England. He married Dorothy Parker or Mary Leigh. Their children included William, Leonard, Thomas, and possibly Gilbert, Ann and William. Leonard was born in 1681/2 and he lived in Henrico County Virginia. Other descendants also lived in Virginia. The surname Ballou is also spelled Ballowe, Ballew, Ballow and other ways.
Ray,

Thanks for finding this more recent study. Unfortunately, it does not appear to be online, and per worldcat.org, is only in a few libraries, and NOT in Library of Congress (close to me). Looks like LDS may have microfilmed it, but not yet digitized it.
