G2G: Country name for Orange Free State before 1848

Question

On the country naming page of the South African Roots Project previous names for the Free State only starts in 1848. However, we do know that there were communities living there before this date. Winburg baptisms start in 1842.

Have we decided what to call this area that wasn't a country yet.

The same goes for the Transvaal before 1844.

The Great Trek started already in 1835.

 In 1840 is op Potchefstroom met ‘n ooreenkoms tussen Hendrik Potgieter en Andries Pretorius die eerste Voortrekkerstaat gestig, wat die Republiek van Natalia genoem is en Transvaal, Noord-Vrystaat en Natal ingesluit het. Toe is ook die Voortrekkerkerk gestig, wat die gemeentes Potchefstroom, Winburg en Pietermaritzburg ingesluit het. Deur die Volksraad is op 16 Januarie 1841 die eerste kerkrade vir die gemeentes benoem en die Presbiteriaanse sendeling van Amerika, ds. Daniel Lindley, is as eerste leraar van hierdie Voortrekkerkerk aangestel.

Ds. Lindley het in Natal gewoon en in Maart 1842 op weg na Potchefstroom ook Winburg besoek, die eerste kerkraadslede bevestig, in die verskillende wyke van dié uitgebreide gemeente dienste gehou en die sakramente bedien. Hier het dan ook die doop- en lidmaatregisters van die gemeente begin. Met dié eerste besoek het ds. Lindley 331 kinders hier gedoop. 

Ek dink dus ons kan met veligheid die dope onder Natalia Republiek plaas , maar ek stel voor 'n verdudeliking in die Biografie om die pleknaam (geskiedenis) te verduidelik sal dalk 'n goeie idee wees aangesien die doopregisters nou in die Transvaal en Vrystaat se Kerkargiewe bewaar word en baie verwarring kan veroorsaak
