Edward Rice appears to of been a constable, and later a district-constable, in Tasmania, with the first record of him appearing in 1835. He initially worked in Hobart Town, before moving to Campbell Town, then soon after to Longford/Carrick. In 1844, in the Church of England and Ireland in Hobart, he married Maria O'Brien. According to the marriage record, Edward was born about 1803 (location unknown). In 1848, Edward and his family left Tasmania for Port Phillip, Melbourne. When the Victorian Goldrush struck in 1851, it appears Edward took part, and passed away Shire of Indigo, Victoria, in 1858.
Edward's wife, Maria, worked at Christ Church Society's Hospital, Ashby, Victoria, as a Ward-keeper, in 1851. Maria had three children by the time of Edward's death, and received charitable donations after Edward's passing in 1858. I have found no more records for her afterwards. According to her marriage record, she was born about 1825 (location unknown).
The only child which I can find is more information on than their birth record is Caroline Eliza Rice, who married Robert Campbell in 1865 in Dunolly, Victoria, and passed away Auckland, New Zealand.
