G2G: Civil War Widow of Pvt. Oscar Morgan 106th NYV and her Lover…

We have a veteran of the 106th New York Infantry Regiment Company E. Who died sadly of Typhod fever at North Mountain Virginia June 26, 1863. The story with just the civilwardata and basic fold3 records would seem to indicate his story ended here until we see under remarks in record of another man’s name that being Lt. Alexander Amos of the 142nd NYV. See his Wikitree HERE.

Their is more to the story of Pvt. Morgan after he died and his widow and that is the mystery I need collaboration.

The multi page widows file is very detailed and the handwriting I’ll need some assistance with in determining more about his widow Julia. You see Julia was mentioned as Julia Amos in the first page as his widow. Further in page 2 we will see her maiden name confirmed as “Cotton” and we know the Massachusetts “Cotton” family has an interesting genealogy into the witch trials…

1.) Did Julia remarry Lt. Alexander Amos? If so when? Did she marry him while her husband was enlisted?

2.) Who were her children it appears she had at least one child with Pvt. Morgan. Mentioned are a Ella born July 26, 1861 and Etta Morgan born august 23, 1862

3.) We need to connect Julia as his spouse and further her genealogy.

4.) What was Oscar P. Morgan’s middle name as his initial is the letter “P”

5.) Julia indicates she married Oscar P. Morgan in Parishville, New York on September 22, 1860. It appears by Rev. D.W. Thomas? It appears the good reverend was a missionary in India when she was giving her statement as a widow…wonder who was the Rev. She has a familysearch.org profile, which calls her Julia Etta Cotton, born on November 5, 1841, and died after 1910.  It says that she was the daughter of John Cotton (1784-1859) and Waitstill Austin (1809-1860), that she married Oscar Morgan on September 16, 1861, in  Richland, Franklin County, Vermont and Amos Alexander on November 3, 1903 in Hennepin, Minnesota.  The only child listed is Elvira Morgan (1861-1881).

P.S. Interesting that the profile reflects Amos' first wife as an Austin, same surname as Julia's mother.

Did you see the 1870 Census link?  She's calling herself Julia Morgan there.

It’s interesting because the fold3 record of pension has Alexander’s name on it in remarks section filing dated August 24, 1863. Unless they added his name after they were married at a later date
