G2G: Great Grandmother vs. Great-Grandmother

Please Note:  great grandmother is not the same as great-grandmother

Great grandmother without the hyphen is "great" being used as an adjective describing the grandmother.  Whereas, great-grandmother, with the hyphen, is a noun representing the mother of one's grandparents.

The pages, apps and extensions need to be corrected to properly refer to our great-grandmothers, etc.

Never found it to be a problem, it could be interpreted as you say .

The last thing we need is another zillion errors based on use or not of a hyphen.

What about places where the term grandmother is not generally used?

Are we to do away with local customs?

Both are acceptable.  Different countries also use hyphens or no-hyphens.

Since WikiTree is programmed based on the English language, it should maintain the English spelling, etc. throughout the site.

@Tommy, I agree that computer programs use US English; but I'm not aware of any language restrictions on biographies - in fact there are many bios here which are not written in English as the first language.

What happens if someone spells words with 'or' or 'our' such as color vs colour? Neighbor vs Neighbour?

There are many cultural spelling variations I believe this falls under ' use their conventions instead of ours".

This is not a term used in profile creation, it is a description of in this case of a family relationship probably used in a biography. Or in a connection.
