G2G: Newt Mallard-574 introducing myself

Hi all,

I am 20 years old from Cumberland, England with no previous experience in family history or genealogy. I have however always been fascinated by family history and would always pester my parents and grandparents to get the old photographs out. My childhood was well documented too, with thousands of photographs of me taken by my grandfather, a hobbyist photographer.

I joined and began contributing to WikiTree a few weeks ago after another of several trips to my grandmother's home of Co. Leitrim left me with a profound sense of curiosity as to who my ancestors were, where they came from. I quickly learned how to source information and recently completed the addition of all of my great-great-grandparents to WikiTree, along with some of their parents and so on.

I with 99% certainty recently found the baptism of one of my great-great-grandfathers from Co. Leitrim, of which the exact date had been a mystery. It wasn't indexed, possibly due to a lack of details, so I had to look through the original parish records on microfilm.

Wowsers! You are off to a terrific start! IMHO the most important thing is to document document document. You seem to have that down pat. I wish you much luck in your discoveries!

If you are doing a lot of searching through unindexed records, I recommend you avail yourself of a Research Log. This is a tool where you can keep track of where you've looked for records, what you were looking for, and what did you find. It is so easy to find yourself looking at the same thing you already searched previously.

Belated welcome to WikiTree!
