G2G: The Rardin Indentured servant

not quite sure where to put this, so last yr I had a subscription for 3 months to ancestry,. had their total access plan. I was taking advantage of the access it gave me to newspapers.com and was looking at precolonial newspapers and came across an article in a Boston newspaper that made mention of a runaway indentured servant who went by  the last name O'Riordan (want to say it was dennis but not sure).  one of two runaways mentioned, a reward of $10 was offered for their return. i can't for the life of me remember the name of the man he was indentured to. i think he was paying off the debt that indentured him by teaching Latin to the mans son. I believe he may be one of my ancestors and am seeking the name of his debtor/benefactor. I'd like to trace my lineage further back into Irelands past and see if i can accomplish that which Joseph Spangler Rardin was unable to. i believe by knowing the debtors name and tracing his lineage i may be able to find the connection and trace where exactly in Ireland this Rardin ancestor came from then go from there. also. if anyone knows the story of this man and how he ended up a runaway servant i would love to hear about it even if by chance he's not related.

yes. it was Dennis O'riordan. i'm 99.9% sure of it. i know i read about it in an article i found at newspapers.com in an archive of one of bostons newspapers. but i can't remember the year. just know it was boston because the same paper mentioned some famous americans booksellers shop in boston. ti was an advertisement for the business in the paper.

I am 100% sure i saw the runaway servant story in an issue of the Pennsylvania  Gazette on newspapers.com. what exact date i don't remember. there are quite a few of them from 1728 to 1815 listed there. i know it was that publication because of the way things were written (had a bunch of long s's in it's writings) and it mentioned a great many runaway servants and slaves in it's issues. so i guess i was wrong about it being out of boston.

    I just purchased a 6 month total access account and DNA test kit from ancestry.com and with that i get access to newspapers.com. i was browsing through the east coast newspapers looking for that article yesterday (for 4 straight hours) and came across the Gazette, when i looked at some of the issues i realized then that this was the publication i had originally seen the article in. i hope that helps anyone reading this thread who decides to look for themselves for this article. i may look again later today and if i find it i will post the date as a reply to this comment.

i got the name completely wrong.

he was the property of William Moore but before that he was the property of Hugh Evans. also, William Reardon was a Privateer. Mr. Williams issued a 10 pound bountry.
