Gustave Paul Cluseret was born in Suresnes, France on June 13, 1823. He was made a chevalier of the Legion of Honor for helping suppress the insurrection of June 1848 against the Orleanist régime. Served in Algeria and in the Crimea. Commanded the French Legion in Giuseppe Garibaldi’s forces was wounded at the siege of Capua. Arrived in 1862 was commissioned Colonel and aid-de-camp on the staff of General George B. McClellan. He joined John C. Fremonts entourage was given a brigade and fought at the Battle of Cross Keys. Promoted to Brigadier General of volunteers

Also, the above and the Legion of Honor source has his birth in Paris, and not Suresne. I looked in the Departmental archive for Suresne, and this surname does not appear in the Decennial index that includes 1823.
