Good day
I desperately need help. I have been running into brick walls trying to trace my Great parents roots in England and possibly, Russia/Poland/Lithuania Unfortunately the family members who could help are all deceased, and the last surviving aunt has dementia. I am living in South Africa.
I have attached the few things that I have been able to find that my aunt tried to help with before she started losing her memory.
From what I gather My Great grandfather either Simon or Samuel Isaacs was born in either Lithuania/Poland/Russia or Manchester, and my Great Grandmother was also either born in Lithuania/Poland/Russia or England she was either Freda / Frieda Axel Road or Axilrod, Axelrod
They were married in South Africa circa 1910.
The story somehow goes like this my GreatGrandfather married Frieda in South Africa, she came to South Africa on a bride ship apparently, so did her sister who eventually settled in Cape Town somewhere someone in our family thinks she married a Lewis, they had a falling out and lost contact.
My Great grandparents married in the Transvaal in South Africa, I have attached the closest I can find in South African records. During either the 1920's or 30's My Samuel / Simon dumped Frieda and the children and went back to England and he married a cousin. The children spent time at an orphanage in Johannesburg Nazareth House I think.
Frieda changed the Surname of herself and the children from Isaacs to Rhoades at some stage probably the early 1930's due to rising Anti Semitism at the time.
My Grandmother was born Sally Doris Isaacs, she had a sister Toni, brothers were Percival, Lennard, Joseph. All were born Isaacs then changed to Rhoades, We think one or Two of the boys stayed Isaacs.
Frieda died at the Sandringham Jewish old aged home in the early 1970's.
But was not buried in the Jewish cemetery.
If you could please possibly point me in the right direction this has been a very frustrating journey.

Gavin
