Hi Wikitreers & U.S  Civil War Project Members, laugh

We continue to sound the Bugle Call from time to time for the 106th NYV that we might get the remainder of the regiment better connected to our one BIG Family Tree!

We have updated Company K recently and now you will find most of these veterans of the Glorious 106th New York with a physical bio description, a date with place of birth and death; yet the paternal connections are still a work in progress!

So let’s answer the Bugle Call and Let’s Get These Veterans Connected! laugh

Edit: Maybe your related to a veteran of the 106th NYV smiley

Thank you

Don’t forget to visit every free space page for each company of veterans of the 106th New York as there are 1400 veterans!

I noticed all of the Fold 3 connections on companies G and I.
Had done H several months ago so I skipped it.

Many of the veterans of the 106th New York can be challenging to find on fold3 records as fold3 transcribed many as 105th New York so a search under the 105th shows many that are overlooked the hard copy clearly shows 106th New York and company with matching enlist dates etc.smiley

The profile of Charles C Caldwell (1844 - 1913) really shows the success stories of one of our 106th New York veterans of Co.K

He survived the war, was successful in the grocery business and later in politics even became the sheriff!

I think you might find his story interesting. He still needs his children added such as the daughter etc.,

The profile for 2nd Lt. Harley Day (1841 - 1903) is I believe the first veteran of the 106th with the occupation of teacher.

I believe he might have an interesting story as most were farmers but as we see not all!

Looking for his obit will help greatly in his genealogy.

He is brother to Corporal Alfred Day (1845 - 1912)

Yes both brothers served together in the War in the same company however Lt. Harley Davis was captured in action, July 9, 1864, at the Battle of Monocacy, Md . ; paroled, April 16, 1865

Both brothers survived the war which is a miracle for them and their families.

Another set of brothers I find very interesting are Pvt. Ira Colby Goodridge (1845 - 1926) and Dr. Edwin Alonzo Goodridge (1840 - 1916)

Ira was the owner of Upham Hotel in Santa Barbra, California. He came to this part of California in June of 1912. He purchased the hotel at De la Vina and Sola Streets.

Edwin was a practicing physician for 34 years at Flushing, New York. He came to Flushing in 1871 and practiced medicine there until 1905 when he retired. He was on the village board of education and for 5 years president of the board. He was a graduate of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York.

Yes Both brothers served in same Company K and both led very successful lives after their service to the Union!laugh

I do believe Company K has the most brothers who served than the other companies.

Two more sets of brothers who served in Co. K are the Loop brothers

We have Spellman Loop (1838 - 1918) whose “hearing became permanently impaired from being near the artillery as it fired.”

His brother Leeman O Loop (1840 - 1932) who survived the war and details need researching

More sets of brothers who served as there seems more than any other Company in the regiment are

Charles H Nickerson (1836 - 1916)

And

Orson Nickerson (1824 - 1907)

So many sets of brothers served as mentioned but we also have father and sons who served in Company K

As we see with the father George B. Pelsue (abt. 1820 - abt. 1879) and son Orson James Pelsue (1843 - 1903)

This company seems to far outweigh all other companies of the regiment with immediate family serving together and in some cases perishing in battle or disease together

Brothers also can be seen with Israel Ambrose Sayles (1836 - 1906) and John Lawrence Sayles (1832 - abt. 1904)

I believe others are related but need better connecting and sourcing

This company is heavily related
