G2G: looking for information to support Gay as maiden name of Mary, born c 1665, m Thomas Whitmel/Whitmell

I've pretty much convinced myself that the maiden name for the Mary UNKNOWN who married Thomas Whitmel was Gay, and that Mary Clark was his first wife: Clark is given as maiden name of wife/mother of Thomas Whitmel & Thomas Whitmell "II" but no sources. On II's profile, his will mentions land of John Gray. Gray is one of the contenders for Mary's maiden name (see the Names section of Mary Unknown's profile), but I think that's in error.

I want to change Mary Unknown to Mary Gay - do you think I have enough (circumstantial) evidence to do that? How much weight should I give to Whidbee as maiden name? (see the Names section)

Ignoring the Whidbee possibility, my best guess is that Mary Clark was his first wife & Mary Gay, daughter of Henry Gay, was his second (Gray is another family - John Gray married Ann Bryan, sister of Elizabeth Bryan, who was wife of Thomas Whitmel II).  Is the Whidbee possibility enough to leave Mary's maiden name unknown? Anyone have a source for Gay or Clark or Whidbee?

Thanks!

I'm so sorry - I have searched and searched ever since you posted this question for the answer to your question and I have not found any evidence (or even a hint) that Mary's maiden name was Gay.
