G2G: Help finding parents of James Ayers (1815-1885)

Question

A descendant family reached out to me asking for help locating the parents of:

James Ayers (1815-1885)

born 2 April 1815 (probably in Indiana or Ohio)

married 5 May 1839 (Wabash Co., Indiana)

died 14 September 1885 (Iowa Center, Story Co., Iowa)

 

(parents probably both born in Pennsylvania)

Comments

Russ, based on the 1885 Iowa State Census (Line 14) James was born in Ohio.

(Writing is too faint).

Thanks Ruben, I've added a note of this to James' bio (contradicting the1880 US Census gives Indiana as his birth location)

I think I found James on the 1840, 1850, 1860 and 1870 Census's but to go back further is difficult with out any other information. It looks like he was born in Ohio not Indiana but nothing popped out on his parents names.

The James Ayers b. abt 1782 NJ and wife, Lavinia b abt 1800 OH, whom resided in Johnson Twp., Ripley County, Indiana 1850/60, might be worth looking into. They appear to have had various children/grandchildren residing with them b. Ohio and Indiana...and (almost forgot the important part) their neighbor was an Allen.

Thanks for your tip on James Ayers. I'm 81 years old, can't see to well and to top it all off, recently had a double mastectomy. The surgery went well and will start working on genealogy soon. I'm going to get some of the younger family members working on this.
