Hi Jillaine, Oldham is a town on the border of the City of Manchester in Lancashire, its about 35 miles from Horley in Yorkshire.
Hi Mark, I would say its possible but I wouldn't add Abiarther as his father unless you can exclude any other possibilities. The surname is rare enough for this to be seriously considered.
I can only speak from experience that:
1. In my profiles of this age the vast majority were born married and died in the same village or town.
2. In those that haven't they tend to have married a girl from a neighbouring village or town. within a 15 mile radius (a realistic maximum for how far an average person would commute)
The caveats would be:
1. People often entered into service of more distant relatives who may live in another county. For example Matthew could have ended up in Yorkshire working on a farm before he married a local girl?
2. The towns are in the hills/mountains called the Pennines, if I'm honest, there isn't a whole lot in the way of life between Oldham and Horbury even today. Nowadays the main roads take you through the major towns, but back then mountain passes would probably carry trade between the two counties.
Just my thoughts, and please bear in mind I'm no expert, just local
