FTDNA - 76% British Isles, East Europe 12%, West and Central Europe 12%; East Middle East 1%.
My Heritage - 86.1% English.
Ancestry.com - 49% England & Northwestern Europe, 25% Scotland, 11% Ireland, 1% Norway, 1% Wales, 9% Sweden & Denmark, 1 % Germanic Europe, and 3% France.

Ancestors were not from notable personage or nobility. Brenda descended from commoner ancestors who migrated to the Colonies and Provinces of America either by indenture or self-transportation, thrived, migrated to the Mississippi Territory, and helped establish the United States of America.

She was born in Georgia in the 1950's to William Breland and Betty Joyce Jackson.[1]

With a father in the residential construction industry by high school age, Brenda had attended eight different grammar schools in Middle Georgia and East and West Central Florida. During the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, the family lived in Indialantic Beach, Florida, and traveled along A1A where Anti-aircraft missile batteries were set up on neighboring Satellite Beach while the nation waited as the world’s superpowers narrowly avoided nuclear war.[2] The next stop was back to Macon, Georgia, and Fort Hawkins grammar school where the replica of the old Fort Benjamin Hawkins stood on the school grounds. The fort was originally built on the east side of the Ocmulgee River in the Creek Nation which overlooked the ancient earthwork mounds. Unaware at the time that the Lower Creek Pathway which was improved as part of the Federal Road lay just north of the fort and school where numerous ancestors had made their journey to the Mississippi Territory.

Fortunately during the high school years, the family was settled in the Middle Georgia area where she graduated from Margaret McEvoy High School.

After one failed marriage that produced a wonderful son [still living], four years later marrying attorney, Tom Shaffer, and working in the clerical field for 14 years, Brenda Breland Shaffer sought a higher degree of learning at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, USA.[3] Continual advancement of education led to a 34 year career in the Home Furnishings Industry.

As an avid sailor, Brenda received designation through the Coastal Guard Auxiliary Basic Coastal Navigation in 1994, and various sailing courses during the proceeding years that led to a certification to crew boats up to 50 foot. Spouse, Tom Shaffer, attorney and certified Captain, and First Mate, Brenda Breland Shaffer, sailed the ICW and coastal waters of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida as well as the crystal blue waters of the British Virgin Islands until the death of Tom Shaffer on 12 Feb 2003.

Having raised one son [still living], and lived an adventuresome life, Brenda is currently retired and involved in genealogical research. She has written a children's book, Exploring Gran's Grandtrees, for her granddaughter and nieces and nephews.

Hi Brenda! The work you’ve done on the Lesesnes is awesome. Are you a descendant?
posted by Rebecca Hopkins
Good morning Rebecca,

Thank you! I am not a known descendant. I did the research as a member of the US Southern Colonies Project, South Carolina trying to sort out the Parker family. There were so many Parker's with the same first name that some descendants had conflated some of the Parker profiles.

Hello Brenda,

This is the time for the 2023 annual check in with members of the US Southern Colonies Project. Have you been active during the last six months in this Project? Note that it is a Wikitree requirement to respond to the US Southern Colonies Check-ins. Please reply to this message by clicking the reply button below this message, to post your answer. I look forward to hearing from you..

Many thanks,

Mary~ Project Coordinator, Membership, US Southern Colonies

Brenda,

This is the semi-annual polling for the US Southern Colonies Project check-in with members to see if you have been active in the last six months in this project? You are on all three Teams of the Carolinas -- Province of Carolina, Province of North Carolina (1712-1776) and Province of South Carolina (1712-1776).

Please note that it is a requirement for membership in the US Southern Colonies Project that you respond to these check-ins. Types of activity vary, as I mentioned in the June check-in.

I look forward to hearing from you.. Many thanks,

Mary, Membership Coordinator, US Southern Colonies Project

I don't understand why you would think I should post suggestions to fix Judge John Williams on the "wonderful-wikitreer" link in your comment. I guess that was a snide remark on your part towards me since I made a comment on Williams-25177.

As I understand, project protected profiles should only be edited by a PM or a project member. I have no reason to join the 1776 Project.

I had intended to post my comment on the profile of 25177 and intended to copy the G2G from that post into my message. I have amended that error.

Welcome to the US Southern Colonies Province of Carolina. I am excited to have you join this team. Here is the page where I jotted down goals and tasks, if you will check them out. These will change as the project advances.

Also please add a bit about your ancestors beside your name and a little about your self. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:US_Southern_Colonies_Province_of_Carolina_Team

As we add space pages for Province of Carolina, we will attach them to this Team page for navigation.

After checking it over, and looking for what interests you most, just message me and I will be checking on you.

If you have questions, just ask!!

Again thanks for joining us for this project and this team.

Hi Brenda,

As you will have seen, we have been doing some restructuring in the US Southern Colonies Project and are now organising ourselves into different teams. We have also changed the criteria for membership. Please have a look at the new project pages, and let me know whether you would like to remain in the project and, if so, which team(s) you would like to be in.

Please can you also send me your e-mail address. I can then make sure you are introduced to your Team Leaders and are in the Google Group.

Please note that it is a requirement for membership in the US Southern Colonies Project that you respond to these check-ins. We’re really excited for the future of the project and hope that you decide to be a part of it with us moving forwards.

Many thanks,

Susie, US Southern Colonies Project Co-Leader

Hi Brenda,

Thanks for becoming pre-1700 certified. Now that you will be working on older profiles you will find yourself collaborating more with others. The best way to do this is by joining a project. Have a look at our list of pre-1700 projects and see if any are of interest to you. Give me a shout if you have any questions.

Thanks, Susie :-)

Hi there! My name is Vicky (Freeth) Majewski and I am a WikiTree Mentor.

This is just a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far? Any questions? Any issues?

Feel free to contact me via my profile page. I am happy to help!

P.S. Just a small suggestion - you might want to create separate tags for each of your names and places. This way, you'll get better search results, and others looking for those things can find you, too.

To edit or add more tags, head to the "Add" drop-down menu, then "Followed Tags"

Otherwise, enjoy WikiTree!  :)

Hi Brenda --

You’ve been here about a week, so I’m just checking in. How is it going so far? Were the How-Tos helpful or did they leave you with questions?

We want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.
