My genealogy journey

I first became interested in family history through my Grandad Jim, who lived in London and likes to use his free OAP bus pass to visit the archives at Kew. He has this big old fashioned tree he had brought and was slowly filling in the names of each generation of parents on it which I loved to look at when we went to visit.

Fast forward several years and pregnant with my first child I decided I wanted to write her a book for her 21st Birthday giving her as much information about her ancestry as possible. Whilst I later discovered grandad made lots of jumps and went off at odd tangents he did give me a good start on maternal lines and taught me the value of referencing sources!

Nearly 18 years on and I’m still working on the book slowly, although my daughter couldn’t currently be less interested!

My most up to date tree is on ancestry but I’m working hard to get it all transferred over to WikiTree since discovering it. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/invite-ui/accept?token=wtGWF-0hEM1JyYoT7E8EEuUeZFOvOTofHnb6rTWOsLQ=

Hi, I just joined the February Connectors Challenge and I've never done a challenge on here before. I have no idea what I'm doing. I saw your name on there and thought I'd reach out - help? How do I add a profile I've connected? lol, sorry.
posted by Katherine (Slone) Sims
The help page for connecting is here.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Connectors_Challenge I would also suggest you join the discord chat page as it is really useful to ask questions and there is always someone there to help. I normally start with someone unconnected and just keep adding profiles until I find a link. When you have connected then click on the challenge tracker and comment with “connected (ID of initial profile)”

Thank you for replying.... I've replied to the Connectors Challenge page and added the profiles I have connected and the counter hasn't updated w/ my name so I assume I still did it wrong. I'll try to find the Discord. Thanks!

Hello, Katie!

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s VERY IMPORTANT to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
