New Haven Colony/Quinnepiac was settled in 1638, and continued as a legal jurisdiction until the end of 1664. It contained the towns of New Haven, Milford, Guilford, Branford, and Stamford, in what is now Connecticut and  Southold, Long Island, which is now part of New York.

There are newly created categories for these historical places.

Nice work! One more topic for that page: People beginning to work in this area might need to be made aware that the early towns in the New Haven Colony (as with all early New England towns) did not have the same boundaries as the modern towns of the same names. Portions of towns like North Haven, East Haven, North Branford, etc., may have been settled during the New Haven Colony era, but did not get split off until later.

Thanks for starting these Anne!  I have ancestors all over these places.  As you know, many of these folks lived in more than one colony.  It is fun to see how they moved around.

I have many ancestors that were the original settlers of Southold, Long Island. I did not realize that they were part of the New Haven Colony...thank you.
