G2G: Help finding my mystery Uncle's bio father

Hey all!

I was talking to my grandfather and my uncle and they spoke to me about their life in Puerto Rico and how they would spend time with their favorite uncle, Luis. He was my great grandfather's half brother. Now, no one knows who his real father is only his last name...I know my great grandmother Justina had er...multiple men throughout her life, word says she was quite the beauty. I've had no luck finding his father so I wonder if you guys could help.

Here is his information:

Luis Bonilla Y Morales (Later called Lopez y Morales, I assume after he found out that he wasn't his father Isidoro Bonilla's son.)  Born in 1908 in possibly Pueblo Oeste, Coamo, Puerto Rico to Justina Morales Y Saldaña.

The brother of: Angel Rodriguez (Bonilla) Y Morales (my great grandfather), Maria Mercedes Bonilla y Morales, and Aurelio Bonilla y Morales.

Death: Unknown but I did find a record with a possible death date as October 1945 but that would not make sense because my grandfather was born in 1945 and my uncle is younger than him. The man is a mystery but I do know that he got married to a woman named Luz Lopez (Maiden name unknown) Any help is appreciated!

This looks like the birth record for your gg-grandfather's half brother in the Puerto Rico Civil Registration.

SUMMARY

  • Name - Luis Bonilla Y Morales
  • Birth Date - 12 Aug 1908
  • Location: Coamo, Puerto Rico
  • Mother's Name: Isidoro Bonilla Johnson

There is an image of the handwritten record of his birth at the link below.

"Puerto Rico, Registro Civil, 1805-2001," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVJ9-4835 : 16 July 2017), Luis Bonilla Y Morales, 12 Aug 1908; citing Coamo, Puerto Rico, oficinas del ciudad, Puerto Rico (city offices, Puerto Rico).

In addition, there is a decently sourced family tree for him at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:2:3JYZ-K22, which lists his name as Luis Bonilla Y Morales (Lopez), which sounds like the guy you are seeking.

I didn't check the sources, but it looks like someone has sourced census records and Social Security records for him there. Good luck! I hope that gets you started and that it's the right guy.

Thank you! That's actually my tree on FamilySearch you linked me too, hehe! There sadly isn't a lot of census records for him...it's like he disappeared of the face of this earth.
