Biography

Anne Prejean was born around 1687 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of Jean (Prejean) Préjean (abt. 1651–abt. 1733) and Andrée Marguerite Savoie (abt. 1667–aft. 1714). [1]

In 1693, at Port Royal, Anne, aged 6, was living with her parents, Jean BRIGEAU [sic], aged 42, and Andree, aged 26, and her three siblings: Marie, aged 9, Pierre, aged 3, and Jean Baptiste, aged 1. The family owned 1 gun and was living on 14 arpents of cultivable land with 6 cattle, 8 sheep, and 5 pigs.[2]

Anne (17) married François Pierre Pitre (22) (born in 1682 in Port Royal, Acadie; son of Jean Pitre and Marie Pesseley) in 1705 in Port-Royal.[3] [1]

Their known children were:

  1. Antoine Pitre (1706–bef. 1763)
  2. Marie-Josephe Pitre (1708–1763)
  3. Jean-Baptiste Pitre (1711–1758)
  4. Marie Madeleine Pitre (1713–bef. 1802)
  5. Marguerite Pitre (1715–1806)
  6. Simon Eustache Pitre (1717– )
  7. Agnès Pitre (1719–1781)
  8. Judith Pitre (1721–1790)
  9. Francois Joseph Pitre (1723– )
  10. Anne Pitre (1725–1725)
  11. Theotiste Pitre (1725–1725)

Anne (44) married Michel Boudrot (46) (born about 1685 in Grand-Pré, Acadie; son of Claude Boudrot and Anne Marie Thibodeau) on 16 Apr 1732 in Annapolis Royal, Acadie.[4] [1] They had no known children.

On 5 September 1755, Michel was imprisoned along with hundreds of other Acadian men at the St. Charles des Mines church in Grand-Pré. On a list of prisoners, he was said to live in the village des Michel. No children or possessions were listed for him on Winslow's list. All of his children were married, with families of their own. He was required to prepare for deportation within 30 days. [5][6]

On 27 October 1755, Michel (about age 70) and Anne (about age 68) were deported to Virginia. The colony was not welcoming to these Frenchmen who were considered a financial burden. The governor of Virginia refused to accept ships full of foreign, impoverished prisoners. After allowing them to winter over in port, they were deported again in May 1756 to England, aboard the Virginia Packet carrying 289 Acadians. They disembarked in Bristol, England June 1756. Acadians there were neglected and subjected to poor conditions. Many of them died from smallpox as a result.[6] [7]

Michel and Anne passed away between September 1755 and the end of September 1756 in Bristol England, or on the way there.[8][6]
