For surnames Davis and Latham, I have added a Free Space Profile for those with the Latham surname documenting the family trek from Texas to New Mexico. Please feel free to access it and send me any questions. For the surname Davis, I have a book covering the Davis family in Missouri from pre-Civil War to 1960 or so. It contains many citations and pointers. It is BIG and I do not send out copies of it. When I figure out how to do it I will put chapters online that can be copied. You will need to contact me to access them.

I heard family stories, and dismissed most of them. Now I am learning that most branches of my families arrived early, fought in the Revolutionary and Civil wars, some stayed on the East coast but others migrated south, thru Missouri to Texas and from Texas to New Mexico and Colorado. Quite a few of us ended up in California.
I have stories from the Latham's of hiding Jesse James from the posse, from the Davis's of hiding Billy the Kid because Pat Garrett was (in their opinion) a bigger outlaw. The story of the cattle drive when the Latham brothers gathered their families, hands, horses and cattle (the record says 2000 cattle) and moved to New Mexico. And the almost universal story of how the my branch of the Northern Davis family was almost wiped out by their Southern Davis cousins during and after the Civil War.
Then I have my grandmother Davis's (Rorabaugh-243) stories about bring raised in a gold mining town, being on her own at 14 when her mother died, working in a boarding house and, my favorite, when the ladies from the bordello had their meals at the boarding house because their cook had quit and they were starving. She said they were perfect ladies while they were there and dressed modestly. And she didn't blame her aunt (the owner) for letting them come, altho a lot of women in the town were upset about it.
I have found the Latham/Allen part of my heritage fairly easy to trace, and I have a book on the Rorabaugh side. But I am having trouble with the Davis ancestors prior to Richard Davis (Davis--77314). ===
I was born in Vallejo, California during WWII. At 2 we moved to a rural area of Bakersfield, California where I grew up.
I was closest to my mother's family since one aunt and an uncle lived in and near Bakersfield and another aunt in Los Angeles. The family always gathered for Thanksgiving and Christmas at our home in Bakersfield. Christmas was celebrated Christmas Eve with a buffet and presents. Christmas dinner was on Christmas day. We never did Santa Claus. I was told it was the Scandinavian tradition to celebrate that way.
I am an only child, and since both parents worked, was raised by our dogs and horses. Interests included theater (acting and writing), learning new things, and animals. I always have at least one dog and one cat.
I spent a year in Turkey with my husband (Army) and learned the joy of wood hot water heaters and heating concrete block rooms with small wood burning stoves.
I worked at a variety of jobs, finally settling down to my profession as a Technical Writer for computer-related subjects.
I am retired, but still write. Only now it is mainly for children's books about Norwegian Elkhound dogs and pet house bunnies (super good pets, bunnies).
I was married to Pete Kerestan for 13 years. I married my present husband, John Ambrose, 32 years ago. I do not use my husband's surname at his request, as he considered it a "slave name".

Thank you so much for all your contributions to WikiTree in the last few months, and especially to the Wales Project. It’s been wonderful to have you as part of the project as we work together to increase the quality and quantity of Welsh Profiles.
You don’t seem to have selected which team(s) you would like to be on. Please have a look at the project page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Wales and let me know your choices so I can introduce you to your Team Leader(s). Do you have any questions? What can we do to support you? Do you want to continue in the Wales Project moving forwards?
Please can you also private message me your e-mail so I can add you to the Google group.
I see you’re not currently on the Discord server. You’d be very welcome to join us where we have live text and voice conversations which really helps with collaboration. Just let me know and I can send you an invitation.
I look forward to hearing back from you with all the above. Thanks once again, Olivia, Project Coordinator for Wales :-)
Yes, I DO want to continue with the Wales Project, I am just totally overwhelmed and have no idea what to do! I've got a ton of ancestors from Wales, but I haven't even started yet to research them. I know the Davis side has many, and I think the Latham side does too, since uncles on both sides would inform people that they were NOT FROM ENGLAND, they were from WALES!
I am making notes of who shows as immigrated from Wales, and I suppose I need to start with those people. And I think it would help to find a good map so I can put locations in context. But those are the personal ones. If it would help the group, I am a retired technica.l writer, which means I can edit and proof. If a team needed someone to do some of that I would be willing. Thanks for writing. With me, a little prodding helps.
thanks .............. judy
I haven't heard back from you with your team selection or email. I hope you are ok. I am going to go ahead and remove you from the project right now but if you'd like to rejoin in the future you would be most welcome to do so via the G2G sign up post. Please see our project page for membership requirements.
Many thanks,
Olivia :-)

I thought I had answered! Don't know what I did wrong. I am very interested in the Bio Builders, but maybe it is better if we postpone it a little bit. I've got a sick husband and a dog that just had hip surgery. Give me a couple months to get things settled and I will rejoin.
thanks ............ judy
Thanks for being an active member of the Southern Pioneers Project and for adding the project G2G tag.
I created a free-space profile for the story of the Latham family's move from Texas to New Mexico. It is a good story, but the most important part is the begats. It ranges in time from the Texas Republic to the birth of my father. How do I let people know that it is there? The location is: https://www.WikiTree.com/wiki/Space:Latham_History_Transcription
I have a similar one for the Davis side of the family, but it is much larger (a book, really) and I'm not quite sure how to handle it. One Free Space profile? Break it into chapters?
Anyway, please advise how to let people know.l
thanks ............ judy
Please advise specific interests in you have in the Wales Project. We are looking for people willing to work on the project teams. Links to the teams and their descriptions are on the Wales Project page.
Contact any of the Project Coordinators for more information on the project and the teams.
We look forward to working with you.

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!
Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.
The Mayflower Project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.
Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.
Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
Second, I have hard copies of searches (well, they are books) done by older members of my family, like great aunts and such, and I would like to check and see if the information is available on WikkiTree. The names are Rorabaugh from before the Revolutionary War to the 1900's, and Davis in the years after the Civil War, migrating from Missouri thru Texas and to California, all harboring ill will towards their kin about the Civil War. I could see about getting them scanned, but wouldn't want to part with them.
Thanks again ................. judy
I try to do siblings of my ancestors too, for completeness, but it is really entirely up to you. If your tree is stored elsewhere and can generate GEDCOM files, they can be uploaded, though you do need to go through GEDCOMpare to check they do not already have profiles here.
There are quite a few Rorabaugh profiles, which you could look at.
Wendy
The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting suggested matches. Once you have done this the data from your file will be filled in on the add profile screen so that you can review and make adjustments before saving.
One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.
If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let us know by using the "reply" link under our comments or by clicking our names to visit our profiles. From there you can leave a comment or send a private message.

Please start with our New Member How-To pages. They will save you time and energy as you add profiles. Please take a look at our Honor Code. You may be interested in the Allen Name Study!
You mentioned that you are new to genealogy. No problem! We were all a beginner at some point. Take your time, keep track of sources, and ask questions. Check here for tips.
Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.
Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.
The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.
To get the best results, begin adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.
See you in the branches,
Azure Rae - WikiTree Greeter
As this was a comment and not a reply, Wendy won't have seen this. I'm happy to help though.
If you would like to contribute to profiles, you will need to first upgrade (free). When you do, the Greeter on duty will provide you with a link to the New Member How-To Guide.
Let me know if you need further assistance!

Can you tell me how to answer the Request for Volunteers for the Wales Project? I have read everything, but it doesn'f tell me how to answer, or maybe I am just too tired to see it.
This is being an interesting experience. But I have gotten 2 lines back to the 1600's. Next I will clean it up some.
