As far as Royal connections go I found in Wikitree that, King Edward III Plantagenet, is my 19th Great-Grandfather the connection is paternal and goes through Amy Mitchell. My parents: Frank Satterwhite and Elizabeth Glenn, from my mother's family line: my fourth cousins once removed; Admiral Thomas Moorer (the best CNO the USN ever had, please read about him in Wikipedia) and his brother Vice Admiral Joseph Park Moorer. From my paternal line, General Ernest Garlington, is my fourth cousin twice removed he was awarded the Medal of Honor for gallantry at the Battle of Wounded Knee, Indian Wars. I am the proud Great Grand Nephew of Confederate soldiers: James Madison Satterwhite, CSA; Benjamin F. Satterwhite, CSA; Henry Alexander Satterwhite, CSA and their brother, Francis Marion "Frank" Satterwhite, CSA, is my Great Grandfather.

Lt. Dean Edward Hallmark, US Army Air Corps, my fourth cousin, once removed. His B-25 “The Green Hornet” was the sixth aircraft launched from the USS Hornet, Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, 18 April 1942. He crashed landed his aircraft in the water close to China and was captured by Japanese soldiers. He was executed 15 Oct 1942, Shanghai, China. Capt. James William Goodwin, US Army Air Corps with William Powell as a common ancestor is my 9th cousin once removed. May their sacrifice never be forgotten.

Charles Robert Darwin, the originator of evolutionary biology, is my 8th cousin four times removed.

I recall listening to my elder family members discussing our family's relationship with, Vice President Calhoun, calculated to be my 11th cousin 7 times removed in wikitree, from what I heard my mother say it is likely closer, Vice Pres. John Caldwell Calhoun

My 13th cousin three times removed. John Charles Frémont, my hero who blazed the Oregon Trail and set in motion the separation of The Republic of California from Mexico, as directed by, President James Knox Polk.

My WWII Hero, President George Herbert Walker Bush, is my 9th cousin once removed.

Everyone should take advantage of using "Relationship finder" an innovation created by, Mr. Chris Whitten, originator of Wikitree.com a wonderful, and constantly improving, site for genealogy. With, John Wright b. 12 Jul 1488, as a common ancestor, "Relationship finder" calculates Chris and I as 11th cousins once removed and co-incidentally my DNA matches the Wright Brothers of aviation fame, calculated as 18th cousins once removed, Wilbur Wright and Orville Wright

Thomas Dudley, b. 31 May 1688, England, is one of my maternal ancestors, his profile contains a useful note about the spelling of "clark" and clerk" causing the name "Clark" to be added erroniously to family records; another maternal ancestor is, Thomas Dudley b. 1465, England.

"Relationship finder" through my mother's ancestors calculates that WWII hero, awarded Medal of Honor and later movie actor, Major Audie Murphy, US Army , is my 10th cousin once removed and Lt. Col. William Dunlap Simpson, CSA, later Governor of South Carolina, is my third cousin, three times removed. Meriwether County, Georgia was named for, General David Meriwether, he is my 10th cousin seven times removed.

Marshall's DNA match with his father, Frank Pinckney Satterwhite- Family Tree DNA yDNA 67 markers; Haplogroup E1b1b1-M35.1 Family Tree DNA kit 326657, is proven by a match with a descendant of Frank's ancestor, David Satterwhite. This David Satterwhite's brother, James Satterwhite, has a living descendant, James Lee Satterwhite, who has a FTDNA match genetic distance of 5 with, Dudley Marshall Satterwhite, a descendant of Frank.

Marshall's DNA match with his mother, Carolina Elizabeth Glenn Satterwhite, is proven by cross-ref: Peter Jorgensen and Dudley Marshall Satterwhite, are first cousins twice removed; their DNA test markers show a match at first to second cousin level. They are grandchildren of, Lewis Glenn and Bettie Dudley, who are the parents of siblings, Thomas Asbury Glenn and Carolina Elizabeth Glenn Satterwhite

August 2019 copied following Stafford family DNA study from: https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/stafford/4977/ "DNA testing of the descendants of Thomas Stafford (b. 1605, England) of Rhode Island indicate the presence of a relatively rare haplogroup (a DNA strain) when taking into account his English origins. This particular DNA strain is known as E1b1b1a2.

Part of the "E" DNA grouping of humanity, this particular sub-strain is strongly associated with the Mediterranean area, with its peak concentration located in the Balkan region. While common in the Balkans, it is estimated that perhaps only 2 percent of the males in England possess this type of DNA. Taken with other evidence, the presence of this relatively rare DNA suggests a specific past migration event into Britain at about the time of the Roman invasion and occupation.

A number of Stafford researchers have speculated about a deep Roman origin for this Stafford DNA. Much of Britain was part of the Roman Empire from 43 AD up to the 400s and this became an opportunity for many from outside the Roman province of Britannia to settle there.

First, a little nomenclature.

This specific strain of DNA now under study in England is presently known as E1b1b1a2. Up until 2008, E1b1b1a2 was known as E3b1a2. That year the nomenclature was changed to improve the system of classification. Even though one may see both classification systems in use even today, it should be noted that E1b1b1a2 and E3b1a2 are simply different names for the same thing. Also, it should be noted that this strain is proved by the presence of a specific mutation known as V13 giving rise to a third way of identifying this DNA: E-V13. All are the same: E1b1b1a2=E3b1a2=E-V13.

So far, fourteen individuals that have participated in the Stafford y-DNA Project have been found to be part of Stafford Lineage 2 which is defined by the E1b1b1a2 haplogroup. Eight out of fourteen individuals in this lineage can trace their ancestry back to the immigrant Thomas Stafford (b. 1605 in England) who settled in Rhode Island. The remaining six are probably descended from this Thomas as well. We just don't know exactly how.

So how is it that an ancestor of Thomas Stafford could have been a Roman legionnaire?

In the Fall of 2007, an article appeared in the Journal of Genetic Genealogy entitled: Haplogroup E3b1a2 as a Possible Indicator of Settlement in Roman Britain by Soldiers of Balkan Origin. The author of the article, Steven C. Bird, makes the case that this particular DNA can be associated with the Roman 20th Legion, the so-called Legio XX Valeria Victrix that was filled with men from the area we now know as the Balkans. This legion had an almost continuous presence in Britain during the 350+ years of occupation. Soldiers from this legion would gain land and Roman citizenship once they were paroled from the service. Over the ensuing centuries, they culturally melded with the population but still retained their unique DNA to pass on from father to son.

I won't go into the specifics here as there is quite a bit to it. However, I would encourage anyone that has an interest in this to read the article thoroughly. Steve has done a very good job with it."

I found the above through a FTDNA match with a person I do not know, James Andrew Scheppard, whose earliest known ancestor is, Thomas Stafford b. 1605, In my FTDNA "ancient origin" profile a segment of my DNA traces back 3,800 BCE to the Yamnaya culture which originated near the present day city of Samara in Russia. Samara is located at the confluence of the Volga and Samara river. Other segments are from Scandinavia, Germany, England, Spain, France, etc., I am of 100% European descent.

Two fallen naval aviation friends that I will never forget: Don Allan Fowers and Peter John Ruggeri

It may be offensive to some but I found this man's obit funny, Leslie Ray Charping

I have a question for you. My family line goes back through Hannah Satterwhite Mitchell and her mother Sarah Blake. My 23andme dna verified what we'd been told forever, Native American in my mother's line that goes back through Hannah to Sarah Blake and I was given a timeline that points to Sarah Blake perhaps being the originator of that dna lineage which calls to question if she was actually an adopted child of immigrants and not born to them. Have you ever heard or run into anything regarding this? I am C-1358

Notes for: Elizabeth ("Betsy") Bodine By tradition and censuses, Elizabeth was the oldest child of John Bodine and Nancy Gunnels. She and Pinckney Lout were already married and had three children prior to 1833. It appears that she had five children in her marriage to Pinckney Lout and three children by Burwell Eaves. At this time the best info indicates that she must have died in San Augustine County, Texas about 1866. The county tax record for 1866 was administered by someone other than herself. A large probate record exists in the San Augustine County records.

From Ronny Bodine:

On 27 Feb 1835, Pinckney Lout was given title to a land patent of 4428.40 acres in Jefferson District, Orange County, Texas (Patents vol. 22, no. 287). He served under Bailey Anderson at the Siege of Bexar and received an honorable discharge on 20 Feb 1836. On 22 Nov 1837, Colonel Jacob Snively wrote to Sam Houston that Pinckney Lout had been killed the Sunday before. (From the Houston Williams Papers - Texas State Archives.) As related by family members, Pinckney was shot to death by the wife of a shopkeeper in the village of San Augustine regarding the purchase of a pig. In 1850, Elizabeth Lout, giving her age as 32, was living near her mother in San Augustine County, with her 3 children. In 1860, Elizabeth Eaves, now reporting her age as 47, and widowed a second time after only four years of marriage, was living near her mother probably still on the Bodine property. Her large household included 3 children of her 2nd husband's previous marriage.

Children of Elizabeth Bodine and Pinckney Lout: Nancy (26 Jan 1829), Lovisa (1830), Julia Ann (1831), Pinckney (c1838).

Thank you for your lovely note cousin Marshall. I would love to know who you met from Stephens county and wonder if one of them was Doug Fambrough?? One of my grandmothers sisters was married to Earl Satterwhite and he was such a dear man. I loved Uncle Earl. I knew all the Satterwhites that lived close to my grandmother. I too wish that we could have had some reunions. I have dug into my memory bank and think I remember going to a Satterwhite reunion in Breckenridge years ago as a young person. I can see a room full of people but that’s all.

While I am here I want to congratulate you on your wonderful profile....good job. I love that you add to it from time to time. Cousin Lula

Hi Marshall,

If you haven't read the history of the Pickerings on my Tree go here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pickering-223 A summary, there are 2 Pickering lines. Both probably originated in York. One went to Salem, MA the other migrated to Buck Creek, PA. My line is from the Buck Creek line. Hope this helps, Hal

Hi Marshall,

My paternal grandmother is Ora Juanita Winfred Satterwhite. How are we related? My father was Bill Albert Williams, Juanita’s only surviving child. If I trace back Juanita’s paternal line, thanks to your hard work, gets me to an early Virginia colonist and possibly an FFV status as a member of the Jamestown Colony. You have cited members of our family as confederate soldiers (I have Federal officers on my mother’s side). We’re there any colonial fighters that you know of, or did the Quaker status preclude this?

Hi Marshall, You reference War of 1812 'Tories' for the British side. You might be interested in this work, showing that many British loyalists were quite different from what the word 'Tory' conveys (including of course a couple of my ancestors :) ). https://www.theguardian.com/books/2011/feb/19/libertys-exiles-maya-jasanoff-review

Hi Marshall, I see you added some URLs to FamilySearch profiles on some of our relatives. For the ones I manage, those links were already there, further down the page under the source citations. The structure of the URL looks a bit different than what you see in your browser because they are the archival form of the link but they go to the same place. Thank you so much for all your advice and help today. As a rookie, I am certainly dumb but anxious to learn.

Thought about James T Dudley. I think it is James S. Dudley instead of T. I have a lot of census records with Martha Bond on it and tax records and a marriage to Martha Bond on a Georgia state site using the name James S. No idea yet what the S stands for. I will let you know more as I do more research.

Planning a week in Georgia in beginning of March after my knee cap heals

I am trying to trace my grandmother's family and have hit a snag. I have a gap in connecting these folks. Can anyone help with sources I can use for researching these folks.

Howard Lee Allen, my father Rosa Dudley Allen (my grandmother, Hartwell/Elbert/Franklin County, Georgia 1898-1979 Willis Grove Dudley 2grandfather. 1862-1923 (same area as Rosa to Willis J Dudley 3grandfather 1831-1880 (Same area as Rosa) James Dudley 4grandfather 1799-1870.
