CWO4 Dudley Marshall Satterwhite, USN Ret. b. 30 July 1938, Crockett, Texas, Dr. Monroe Arthur Thomas M.D., birth doctor, m. 19 Dec 1959 (1) Brenda Brigid Brady, Millington, TN. She was born 18 Feb 1939 in KY d. 31 Dec 2000 in MS m. (2) 27 Sep 2010, Patsy Jane Cherry Gibbs, RN, a schoolmate from first grade in 1944 until graduation in 1956 in Crockett, Texas. She was born 11 May 1938, and is a graduate of the Jefferson Davis Hospital School of Nursing affiliated with the University of Houston. Marshall’s 26 year navy career was from June of 1956 until Dec 1982. Veteran of Vietnam stationed at Danang Air Base, RVN with VQ1 Squadron Detachment Bravo and aboard several aircraft carriers with special short missions in the war zone. Four overseas assignments, family included: 1960-1962 - NAS Port Lyautey, Morocco (one month with US Embassy New Delhi, India); 1966-1968 - NS Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada; 1971-1974 - NAS Agana, Guam with VQ1 (several detachments to war zone); 1977-1979; NAS Cubi Point, Philippines with VC5. Helicopter rescue crewman 1959, transport aircraft flight engineer 1960-66, aircraft maintenance officer 1966- 82. As far as Royal connections go I found in Wikitree that, King Edward III Plantagenet, is my 19th Great-Grandfather the connection is paternal and goes through Amy Mitchell. My parents: Frank Satterwhite and Elizabeth Glenn, from my mother's family line: my fourth cousins once removed; Admiral Thomas Moorer (the best CNO the USN ever had, please read about him in Wikipedia) and his brother Vice Admiral Joseph Park Moorer. From my paternal line, General Ernest Garlington, is my fourth cousin twice removed he was awarded the Medal of Honor for gallantry at the Battle of Wounded Knee, Indian Wars. I am the proud Great Grand Nephew of Confederate soldiers: James Madison Satterwhite, CSA; Benjamin F. Satterwhite, CSA; Henry Alexander Satterwhite, CSA and their brother, Francis Marion "Frank" Satterwhite, CSA, is my Great Grandfather.

Lt. Dean Edward Hallmark, US Army Air Corps, my fourth cousin, once removed. His B-25 “The Green Hornet” was the sixth aircraft launched from the USS Hornet, Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, 18 April 1942. He crashed landed his aircraft in the water close to China and was captured by Japanese soldiers. He was executed 15 Oct 1942, Shanghai, China. Capt. James William Goodwin, US Army Air Corps with William Powell as a common ancestor is my 9th cousin once removed. May their sacrifice never be forgotten.

President George Washinton, is my 8th cousin seven times removed (Confident). President Thomas Jefferson, is my 8th cousin five times removed.

Charles Robert Darwin, the originator of evolutionary biology, is my 8th cousin four times removed.

I recall listening to my elder family members discussing our family's relationship with, Vice President Calhoun, calculated to be my 11th cousin 7 times removed in wikitree, from what I heard my mother say it is likely closer, Vice Pres. John Caldwell Calhoun

My WWII Hero, President George Herbert Walker Bush, is my 9th cousin once removed.

With, John Wright b. 12 Jul 1488, as a common ancestor, "Relationship finder" calculates Chris and I as 11th cousins once removed and co-incidentally my DNA matches the Wright Brothers of aviation fame, calculated as 18th cousins once removed, Wilbur Wright and Orville Wright

Thomas Dudley, b. 31 May 1688, England, is one of my maternal ancestors, his profile contains a useful note about the spelling of "clark" and clerk" causing the name "Clark" to be added erroniously to family records; another maternal ancestor is, Thomas Dudley b. 1465, England.

"Relationship finder" through my mother's ancestors calculates that WWII hero, awarded Medal of Honor and later movie actor, Major Audie Murphy, US Army , is my 10th cousin once removed and Lt. Col. William Dunlap Simpson, CSA, later Governor of South Carolina, is my third cousin, three times removed. Meriwether County, Georgia was named for, General David Meriwether, he is my 10th cousin seven times removed.

This David Satterwhite's brother, James Satterwhite, has a living descendant, James Lee Satterwhite, who has a FTDNA match genetic distance of 5 with, Dudley Marshall Satterwhite, a descendant of Frank.

Marshall's DNA match with his mother, Carolina Elizabeth Glenn Satterwhite, is proven by cross-ref: Peter Jorgensen and Dudley Marshall Satterwhite, are first cousins twice removed; their DNA test markers show a match at first to second cousin level. They are grandchildren of, Lewis Glenn and Bettie Dudley, who are the parents of siblings, Thomas Asbury Glenn and Carolina Elizabeth Glenn Satterwhite

May of 2016: I found 6th cousin, James Howard “Jimmy” Dunn, Sr. b. 23 April 1937, GA; QB on the University of Florida football team 1956-58, after graduating he was assistant football coach University of Tennessee and The University of Florida. Also coached Arena Football League (1987-2008) Tampa Bay Storm.

August of 2019: I found fourth cousin once removed, Janice Huff, she is a third cousin of, Ken Stabler, the famous football quarterback of the Oakland Raiders.

Nov. 2019: I was messaged by, Michelle Enke, that message led me to find, calculated by wikitree relationship finder, Carroll Hall Shelby, Legendary car designer, developer of the Shelby Mustang, is my 13th cousin twice removed.

Dec. 2019: I discovered that, Hayden Fry, famous college football coach at Iowa, SMU and North Texas State, is my fourth cousin once removed the connection is through the Hallmarks. John Hayden Fry was a football quarterback at Baylor University, 1947-50. My thanks to, Matt Melcher, for creating Hayden's profile.

Jan. 2020: I discovered that, Laura Satterwhite Miller, my second cousin once removed had a daughter, my third cousin, Stage name, Joan Perry, who was a New York City model, singer, Hollywood actress. She married the founder of Columbia Pictures Inc., Harry Cohn.

August 2019 copied following Stafford family DNA study from: https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/stafford/4977/ "DNA testing of the descendants of Thomas Stafford (b. 1605, England) of Rhode Island indicate the presence of a relatively rare haplogroup (a DNA strain) when taking into account his English origins. This particular DNA strain is known as E1b1b1a2.

Part of the "E" DNA grouping of humanity, this particular sub-strain is strongly associated with the Mediterranean area, with its peak concentration located in the Balkan region. While common in the Balkans, it is estimated that perhaps only 2 percent of the males in England possess this type of DNA. Taken with other evidence, the presence of this relatively rare DNA suggests a specific past migration event into Britain at about the time of the Roman invasion and occupation.

A number of Stafford researchers have speculated about a deep Roman origin for this Stafford DNA. Much of Britain was part of the Roman Empire from 43 AD up to the 400s and this became an opportunity for many from outside the Roman province of Britannia to settle there.

First, a little nomenclature.

This specific strain of DNA now under study in England is presently known as E1b1b1a2. Up until 2008, E1b1b1a2 was known as E3b1a2. That year the nomenclature was changed to improve the system of classification. Even though one may see both classification systems in use even today, it should be noted that E1b1b1a2 and E3b1a2 are simply different names for the same thing. Also, it should be noted that this strain is proved by the presence of a specific mutation known as V13 giving rise to a third way of identifying this DNA: E-V13. All are the same: E1b1b1a2=E3b1a2=E-V13.

So far, fourteen individuals that have participated in the Stafford y-DNA Project have been found to be part of Stafford Lineage 2 which is defined by the E1b1b1a2 haplogroup. Eight out of fourteen individuals in this lineage can trace their ancestry back to the immigrant Thomas Stafford (b. 1605 in England) who settled in Rhode Island. The remaining six are probably descended from this Thomas as well. We just don't know exactly how.

So how is it that an ancestor of Thomas Stafford could have been a Roman legionnaire?

In the Fall of 2007, an article appeared in the Journal of Genetic Genealogy entitled: Haplogroup E3b1a2 as a Possible Indicator of Settlement in Roman Britain by Soldiers of Balkan Origin. The author of the article, Steven C. Bird, makes the case that this particular DNA can be associated with the Roman 20th Legion, the so-called Legio XX Valeria Victrix that was filled with men from the area we now know as the Balkans. This legion had an almost continuous presence in Britain during the 350+ years of occupation. Soldiers from this legion would gain land and Roman citizenship once they were paroled from the service. Over the ensuing centuries, they culturally melded with the population but still retained their unique DNA to pass on from father to son.

I won't go into the specifics here as there is quite a bit to it. However, I would encourage anyone that has an interest in this to read the article thoroughly. Steve has done a very good job with it."

I found the above through a FTDNA match with a person I do not know, James Andrew Scheppard, whose earliest known ancestor is, Thomas Stafford b. 1605, In my FTDNA "ancient origin" profile a segment of my DNA traces back 3,800 BCE to the Yamnaya culture which originated near the present day city of Samara in Russia. Samara is located at the confluence of the Volga and Samara river. Other segments are from Scandinavia, Germany, England, Spain, France, etc., I am of 100% European descent.
