Researching my fathers family tree, there is a family belief that somewhere along the line we should have inherited Sissinghurst Castle. My research so far has led me to believe that this is a myth. We do have Bakers in the tree, but none seem to be related to the Sissinghurst Bakers.

Jules Harris has completed the England Project's Pre-1700 Orphan Trail II.
Jules Harris was adopted Sep 1961

I was working in Ancestry, but hit a brick wall, I discovered Wikitree and very much liked that everything had to be sourced, I got rather frustrated with stray 'relatives' appearing in my profile. The initial tree was imported on Jun 17, 2020,

I was born on 5 Jan 1961 in Rochford Essex, England. I was adopted by Benjamin (Harry) Harris and Iris (Joan) Harris. They picked me up when I was 6 days old, and the adoption went through in Aug 1961.

I grew up in Southend-on-Sea, and then moved to Blandford Forum, Dorset, England in 1986 where I bought my first house on 12 Dec 1986.

I moved to Kempston, Bedfordshire, England in Jan 1993 where I bought my second house.

I met my husband Russ Goff through close friends in the late 1990s and we married on 18 Jly 2008. We bought a house in Normandy France in the May of the same year, and moved to it in August 2008. Talk about doing 3 of the most stressful things together.

When my parents died within 3 months of one another in 2008/9, I purchased a flat in Action, London, England with the proceeds from the sale of our family home in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, England.

I am an Information Security professional with over 40 years of experience currently working for Flight Centre as Information Security Assurance and Compliance Director. Details of my work life can be found on linkedin https://www.linkedin.com/in/julia-harris-82a690/

I love the challenge of connecting lost and lonely profiles to the main tree.

Thank you, Jules, for connecting Eliza Simbery (Hooper) Pinches to Robert Little Hooper and therefore the main tree. I'm not really related to the Hooper family either but found them interesting and got carried away. And yes, I'm removing myself as manager from some of the Hooper profiles. Pat Miller

Hi Again

As your relatives are based in Sussex, this is bound to happen. I have found the mother of George Edward Dalmon (1871-abt.1950) and through her a way to connect George Edward to the main tree. Are you OK with me adding the relevant profiles??

Hi Chris

Thanks for your message, my purpose for sorting out the conflation of the Mary Ann Edridge or Mary Ann Tullett scenario was because the profiles of Mary Ann and WIlliam were unconnected and doing research on their children which were already on WikiTree showed that the wrong Mary Ann was associated with the profiles. I also added relevant connections in order to connect the family with the main WikiTree family. I am a member of the Sussex branch of the England Team, and my main enjoyment comes from connecting waifs and strays from the master tree. It would be lovely if you would adopt the profiles I created so they can receive some further love, I remove myself as the profile manager as they are not related to me.

Hi Joan

Sorry I have been unwell, so things like this went to the bottom of the to do sheet. I wish to stay in the Sussex, Middlesex, Kent and Essex teams but Sussex is my main focus with Middlesex a strong second. My adoptive family hail from Sussex, my recently discovered blood family hail from Middlesex and Essex (and further back Hampshire and Wiltshire) So I do kinda dip into those counties too. I am also mainly working on connecting as I enjoy the challenge. I will also join the Mighty Oaks when I am well enough again.

Hi Ian

Yes I am happy to stay in the teams that I am a member of, county wise they are Sussex and Kent. I do dip into Essex a bit as well. Mainly active in Sussex as their online records are the best I find. Chris who runs Sussex is an excellent lead, as he gives guidance on what we need to work on each week. Others could take some useful information in the way that he runs things, not that the others are bad, just that he is so good. I am currently trying to get pre 1500 certification, which will help my work with the Managed Profiles team.

Hi Julie, noticed that you removed United Kingdom from the profile of Barber-7442, but all dates were after 1801, not before, so have replaced.

Poking around, I notice this is happening with a lot of places, particularly in Sussex. I thought we were using U.K. for Britain after the 1801 union. LMK if policy has changed.

Hi Monica

I thought it had changed, and started removing it where I found it, however, I don't think it is a hard and fast rule, I asked in the Data Doctors forum, and the response was basically personal choice. Apologies for removing it from your ancestor, I personally don't use it, but feel free to use it if you wish. I will no longer remove it from profiles, unless the date is incorrect.

Thanks, Jules. It's confusing. I tended to not even bother with the country when I started, being so used, in my own tree, to thinking Sussex (for example) was enough, or sometimes even just "London" as all my ancestors are from England with only one Scots exception to at least as far back as the 14th century. But then I found people feeling obliged to add the rest, so with a guilty conscience, feeling I'd been a bit obtuse as not everyone is English, went back and started pre-empting corrections by adding England and United Kingdom where appropriate, as the dates prompted. But maybe that's overkill :) Anyway, no harm.

Hi Julia!

Thanks for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Collaboration with Pre-1700 Project members is essential for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because those ancestors are usually shared by many descendants.

It looks like the England Project would be a good fit based on your branch of WikiTree. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

You are now a Family Member, Julia -- your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together!

Start with the New Member How-To pages — they are really useful as you add profiles and learn your way around.

Have a look at the GEDcom help pages. You should find useful info about uploading your tree. One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that many members have found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

Click the green tags near the top of your profile and see others following the same surnames you are researching. The more tags you add (20 max.) that include surnames, locations, periods of history or other genealogical interests, the more links to community research options you will have. To edit or add more tags, click on the word “following” or use this link. This page will help you learn more about tags.
