G2G: I need some help with this profile

This line is making me crazy. I do my main stuff on Ancestry but am moving it over here. I made a huge mistake and had his profile made up with the wrong parents. I believe that he’s Jr. but I would like to have some input to make sure it’s right.

I’m thinking his father was Deacon William.

I was originally following the McCurdy line (If you go back from Abigail, Abigail you should be there) but came across the Ford line  which goes to the Mayflower. I don’t want to go any further because I don’t want to make a mess of things. Can anyone please help me?

Well, I started with Abigail - so here's her Find A Grave:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/60922603

Born 1774 - died 5 Mar 1853

I think this differs slightly from the information you currently have on the profile.

I did update her daughter's name to "Abigail" with Abby as her more common name. Some records show her as Abby Gail, but the vast majority just show her as Abigail.

Now the record I came across shows Abigail (Ford) McCurdy as having parents of Abner Ford and Bethiah Samson. Checking sources, I see records for her marriage (no parents listed), her children's births, an 1850 Census, and her grave record. So while it's wonderful that there's parents listed, I can't find any source data that would prove they are the correct ones. It does look like a potential McCurdy descendant may have entered the line on Family Search, but that's speculation as well.

Not sure if this is helpful or not.

Here's Abigail Ford that married James McCurdy:

I think if you agree that these generally represent the line you're entering, we should disconnect the parents on Ford-15143 and set up some merges to bring everything together.

So I would have to merge the above Ford-10312 with the one that I did https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ford-15143

Yes - and since she's connected to William and Hannah and the other is connected to Abner and Bethiah, I'd remove the parents William and Hannah before starting the merge process.

Then I'd merge William Ford (Ford-15147) with William Ford (Ford-3235) and Hannah Trouant (Trouant-15) with Hannah Trouant (Trouant-13)

That should get things started.

And then also merge [[Ford-3235]] with [[Ford-15147]]

I don’t know why these didn’t show up when I made themindecision

Well... sometimes they don't and that's how we end up with duplicates and merges. The search engine while creating a new profile can be pretty broad, so generally it either comes up with lots of hits or just a few that don't match. So I wouldn't be too concerned that you missed something. Just glad we caught it here so that we can try to bring them together. :)

I knew they connected some how but I couldn’t figure out how they played into each other. Especially with the Deacon thrown in there and the unverified at the end of names.

Thank you so much for your help smiley

frownIf I connect her with the Ford-3243 it has her married to a Joseph Perry Jr https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ford-12188 and complicates it more because it’s a whole different Abigail with the same parents as the other 2. There are 3 Abigail fords

This one that has the same parents that I had https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ford-15143 this would be the parents https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ford-3235 but they already have an Abigail but not with the husband that I have her with. This is the Abigail from Ford-3235 https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ford-12188 if I merge what I have https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ford-15143 with Ford-3235 what do I do with Ford-15143?

This is why I was going crazy lol

I wouldn't do anything with Ford-12188. Here's the steps I would take:

1) Disconnect the parents from Ford-15143 (both need to come off before attempting any merges)

2) Initiate a merge that will merge Ford-15143 to Ford-10312

3) Initiate a merge that will merge Ford-15147 to Ford-3235

4) Initiate a merge that will merge Trouant-15 to Trouant-13

I think that will clear up most of the discrepancies I'm seeing at the moment and combine all the correct duplicates.

The profile you mention: Ford-12188 - is the Aunt of Ford-15143/10312, and as such, shouldn't be combined with any of the new profiles.

Thank you so much for your patience. Like I said before I didn’t want to mess the line and connect things only to mess it up for someone else. smiley
