We need collaboration in learning more about the life of Thomas E. Stout. In one article he is mentioned as “..being attached to President Davis' bodyguard on his retreat from Richmond and was with the president at the time of his capture…”

He is the son of Notable Surgeon of the Confederacy Samuel Hollingsworth Stout”

I see record of him in the Confederate Navy. I do not see any record of other service. I'm at a loss to figure out how a member of their Navy became part of the Jefferson Davis bodyguard.
