G2G: Who was the father of John Foote-43? [closed]

Question

This profile for John Foote-43 clearly says "Do not connect him to parents without G2G discussion and consensus on the emergence of new, high-quality evidence."  But recently a father, James John Foote-2152, has been added to the profile and John Foote's name changed to 'Robert John Foote, Sr.' with no discussion. The only sources for the profile for his father, Foote-2152, are links to Ancestry trees. Does anyone have any "new, high-quality evidence" for the father, or should he be detached? Should his name be changed back to John Foote, instead of Robert John Foote, Sr.? According to information on the profile "John Foote of Royston and his wife Helen Warren are currently considered to be the earliest documented ancestors of Nathaniel Foote, one of the first settlers of Watertown, Massachusetts and Wethersfield, Connecticut."

I agree with Eddie. Change the profile to its status quo ante. Put a note in regarding why you rolled back the changes, and contact the profile manager about the situation. I edited the profile to bold and cap the caveat to make it more noticeable;

Ancestry trees as the only documentation is a good clue that there are no good sources.

Maybe I'm out of place, but has anyone checked with the facts on the Foote Family Association from their own website? My husband is a Foote descendant. They should have the answers to many of your questions. I hope this might help.

By the way, the Foote family site often copy-and-pastes from their sources, so their text can often be googled, and the original source found.  The sources are often on archive.org -- since google doesn't index that well, it's worth trying:

"interesting text from Foote family content" site:archive.org

which forces google to search archive.org, only.   This is also a trick worth using on suspect Wikitree bios as well -- ones that are unsourced, lengthy, detailed, a bit archaic...

Thanks, all, particularly Kay for spotting this!  We JUST cleaned this profile up in December, so I am a tad steamed.  This is a confusing genealogy, and a lot of research has been done on it over the years; see the prior discussion on G2G at Foote Mess.

It's clear, looking at the change history, that the person making the changes just wanted to be helpful, but didn't even read the bio and prior discussion!

You can also see the link to that discussion on the profile itself, at the upper-right-hand side -- ALWAYS look there, to see what's up!

Since we had consensus, and it certainly hasn't changed, I've changed it back and deleted the link to the spurious father.
