The “Lucinda Guess” listed on the “Old Settler” roll may have been a child of Sequoyah, or a daughter of Sally by another father.  She is not listed by Starr. She died unmarried with no children before 1896.

Lucinda Gist, United States Census, 1850 at Jackson Co., Jackson, Tennessee. She was born in 1833 in Kentucky.

Looking at this 1850 Census, her father looks to be Hiram Gist and her mother as Margera Gist. Older siblings include Rhoda, Elvira, Adeline, and Abegail.  Younger siblings are Mary, Levi Hiram and Jehew.

That Lucinda has no connection to George Guess/Sequoyah, the Cherokee man.  He and his family removed to Indian Territory in 1827.  They lived near Willstown in the Cherokee portion of Alabama before then.
