New Zealand
Elsie (Olson) Hagley lived in Stratford, Taranaki, New Zealand.

My birth name is Elsie Louvain Olson, I was born on the 10 September 1940, 83 years ago.[1] Have lived in Taranaki, New Zealand for 75 years. I had one brother, three sisters, one of my sisters died in 2006, she had Multiple Sclerosis.

My Parents Lewis Edward Olson and Elsie Calista Corbishley both past-away in the 1970's.

I got engaged to my husband, John Thomas Hagley, after knowing him for only six weeks, we were married in 1959, at St Peter's Vicarage, Palmerston North New Zealand. Minster, Rev King.[2]

In the first ten years of marriage I gave birth to two daughters and three sons.

In 1968 we brought our first farm at Midhirst, Taranaki, New Zealand. It wasn’t easy, we were always short of money, so I went out to work, which ended up, 30 years working in the RagTrade, woman clothing, starting off as a machinist, then pattern grading, continuing on to be a cutter, before finally ending up using a Gerber cutter, as the rag trade slowing closed down in New Zealand and going off shore.

In 1997 we left our dairy farm at Midhirst, and after living in New Plymouth for five years we could no longer live in our concrete jungle in a busy city, we bought a sheep and beef farm in 2002 after eighteen years, we have just stopped working on it, we now live in Waitara, Taranaki, New Zealand, retired.

I was a grandmother when I was 38, and a great-grandmother when I was 64 years old. I have fourteen grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren and I love everyone of them.

On the 12 April 2023 my wonderful caring husband passed away, the saddest day of my life, now I will be spending many hours a day on my computer researching my ancestors, which will help my body recover the lost of my best friend ever, which cared for me for over 64 years.

Hi Maddy,

Thanks for your kind message about the lost John my husband of 63 years, It has been a very trying time for the last six months, being the care given as well as a wife, to a wonderful, understanding trusted person that has been beside me for so many years.

Sorry I haven’t done much on WikiTree for the last three months I would like to continue on as i'm at the moment, working with the English projects, as I work with the New Zealand profiles, most of them take me back to some where in England as all my ancestors came from there. I cannot think of any improvements, WikiTree is doing a great job. Kind Regards, Elsie.

I would like to continue on as i'm at the moment. I'm working in Staffordshire now, if there are some other areas you would like help with I don't mind helping out, just let me know.

Working with the New Zealand profiles I find while researching the parents, most of them take me back to everywhere in England which I enjoy very much, to me England is my home also, as all my ancestors came from there.

I'm already in the Google Groups, I receive emails for Data Doctors and England Project, I'm in the Staffordshire Group, but I work all around England wherever it takes me from New Zealand when I'm doing profiles. As the England Project Leaders, we are completing our six monthly check-in with all project members.

Are you happy to stay in your current project team/s? Which team/s are you most active in? Are there other teams you would like to join or become more active in?

Also, do you have any feedback on what the project is doing well and anything we could do better in the future?

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your kind words. I’m joined the Staffordshire team, as my family belong to that part of England, but as I work and research I find it takes me to all parts of England, so if it’s all right I will stay with the team I joined, but i’m quiet happy to work with any English team that need more support and research for their profiles, especially the ones with no sources. I love working with all the friendly members of WikiTree and seeing our Gene trees growing all around the world. Cheers from a cold but sunny New Zealand. Elsie

Hi Elsie,

Thanks for correcting the marriage locations for David Hyauiason and Frances Fletcher (Davidge). Could I ask that, given that it wasn't simply a formatting issue but an actual location change, you attach a source for the information at some point? I can't find a source on either profile to indicate that they married in Waverley. Thanks!

Hi Amelia,

I'm very sorry if I made a mistake, I feel very sad about this, it was a three day Spring-a-thon, worldwide I was taking part in, I was working on Birth, Death and Marriage manly "Country not recognised", and I remember putting South Taranaki, New Zealand on one because I live in Taranaki and their is a town called Waverley. Please accept my apologies. Elsie - Data Doctor

Hi Elsie,

That's not a problem! We're all human, and we make mistakes - especially during Thons. I know I've made plenty in the past :) Admittedly, I live in Auckland not Taranaki (in fact, I think Whanganui might be the closest I've gotten if I'm honest) so I didn't know there was a Waverley there - I've corrected the marriage place for you :)

Thanks for such a speedy response! I really appreciate it :)

Hi Elsie!

Thanks for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Collaboration with Pre-1700 Project members is essential for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because those ancestors are usually shared by many descendants.

It looks like the England Project would be a good fit based on your branch of WikiTree. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).
