Biography

Children: Cornelis. Cornelis inherited the lock business of his father; it's likely he was Ariaen's only son.

It's very likely Ariaen's father's name was Cornelis for the following reasons: 1. there were so many Sluijs' with that name in the area. 2. There is an Adriaen Cornelisz Sluijs listed on the Aartswoud Reformed Church membership list of 1666, and he is the most logical person to be this Adriaen.

Cornelis Cornelisz Sluijs and Adriaen Cornelisz Sluijs were listed as members of the Aartswoud church in 1666. At first glance, it looks as if this Adriaen and his brother Cornelis are listed here. However, it's also possible that these were small children of this Adriaen's son Cornelis. There are other cases in the 1666 membership record where the member is suspected to be a child. However, this would be the only membership record I've ever come across as listing children. And the heading of the membership list stipulates that these are actual members of the church - something you didn't become until at least the age of 16. So I believe these are actual records of our Adriaen and his brother Cornelis. Unfortunately, since the members are given in alphabetical order rather than by family, it's impossible to confirm family units. There were also 3 women named Maertge Cornelis on this list - one of them was likely our Aeriaen's wife.

There was an Adriaan Cornelisz on the 1648 Aartswoud Reformed Church membership list. There was also a Maartius Cornelis (feminine ending). Since the list is in alphabetical order, it's impossible to confirm family units.
