G2G: Who are the father/mother of Joseph Waddle b. 1750 or 1738

Question

When I trace the Waddell family line beginning with my father, Newell R. Waddell, b. 1925 backwards and then forwards from John the Martyr Waddell b. c.1650 (the Battle of Bothwell Bridge, Scotland 1679) I end up at two different Joseph Waddles.  Both lived in the Franklin County, PA area and both died in 1818 but one was born in 1750 and the other in 1738.  The son, Joseph Waddle b. 1799 is the next descendant leading to my father from one or both of these Joseph Waddles.

So, the questions are who are the parents of Joseph Waddle b. 1750 and/or of Joseph Waddle b. 1738 and which one is the actual person in my family line?  I believe that it is the 1750 Joseph but it's very coincidental that they both died in 1818...are they the same person?  Did the Joseph b. 1738 die and the 1750 Joseph is from the same family but given the same name?  Thanks, Mike Waddell

there are records for Joseph Waddell born 1738, died 1787 but he was in South Carolina

using birth years 1730-1740, he is the only one who has records in the USA

Gavin Main Waddell asserts in his book A History of the Waddells in Scotland that there was a William Waddell b. 1660 d. 1750 who may have been the son or brother of John the Martyr Waddell.  It is my hypothesis that this William was the lone Waddell survivor of the prison ship wreck and he made it to Ireland and started the Ouley clan that still exists there and I believe that my family line may be connected to him.

William had four sons...Thomas, William, John and James according to the Waddells of PA and VA.  The son William was born in 1715 and died 1758.  One of his sons was Joseph b. 1738 d. 1818 who had a son Joseph b. 1799 d. 1854 and he is my possible connection to the Marty family line.  However, this obviously depends on whether or not William b. 1660 is a direct descendant of John the Martyr.  He quite probably is of the immediate Waddell family if he was imprisoned with the other four Waddells who were on the prison ship.

in the 1790 census, there was only one Joseph Waddell, checking all name variations, in Pennsylvania

so 1738 Joseph died before the 1790 census

This is what is so confusing to me as a layman trying to sort this out.  Attached is a scan of an Ancestry death cert of a Joseph Waddell born 1738 in Cumberland, PA which is the area where the Waddell family line is shown at that time.

Who do you think is the father of either Joseph b. 1738 or Joseph b. 1750?  I believe that it is William b. 1715 but than means that he could be the father of either Joseph Waddle b. 1738 or Joseph Waddle b. 1750.  Is there an explanation that they could be the same person?  Or could it be John b. 1713?

John WADDELL was born in 1713 in Ryden, New Monkland, Lanarkshire. He was christened on 15 February 1715, and his parents were  John WADDELL (1680) and Mary WADDELL (1688).

On 16th May 1735 he married Helen WOTHERSPOON in New Monkland. They had five children that are known. They were John (1736-1799), Jean (1738), Mary WADDELL (1741), Gavin (1744), and Alexander (1748-1830).

Your line isn't connected to the Martyr. His family is well documented. There is no path to any Joseph
