G2G: Amsterdam: The raids of February 22 and 23, 1941. The fate of 389 Jewish men

Exhibition in the Hall of the Amsterdam City Archives, February 18 - May 30, 2021.

In 2021 it will be 80 years ago that two raids took place in Amsterdam on 22 and 23 February, during which almost 400 Jewish men were arrested and deported. 387 of them were murdered, only two men survived. The raids led to a wave of dismay and were the immediate trigger for the February strike. Historically, the raids have been in the shadow of that strike. The project ‘The raids of 22 and 23 February 1941 in Amsterdam’ presents a lot of new data. In the hall of the Amsterdam City Archives, all victims are mentioned and commemorated, a memorial on the basis of photos and archive documents. 389 short biographies are published on the website of the City Archives. Guest curator Wally de Lang researched the raids for years, together with this project her book ‘The raids of 22 and 23 February 1941. The fate of the 389 Jewish men’ is published.

The project includes a website of the Amsterdam City Archives with a database with all the names and stories of the 389 men arrested, from 18 February 2021.

If you ever start any page to add these people to WT we are always happy to help at any but surely at sources.

I suggested to the WT top to start in 2020 a WT challenge to commemorate it is/was 75 years ago WW-II was ended. As I thought it was a very good way to get active members of many projects to know each other better and to honor all those  that fought for our freedom and to all too that lost their lives.

In Europe all born after 1945 are the first that did not live in war since............. Europe was for ages a battlefield. But the cruelty of WW-II and also the bravery of so many must never been forgotten.

Als ik tijd genoeg had zou ik er een Free Space Page voor willen maken. Maar ik heb helaas ook nog een onafgemaakte pagina met W. van Pella gangers.

Als ik dit zie worden de Pella gangers stukken minder belangrijk.... Maar we kunnen gewoon niet alles tergelijkertijd.

Je hebt vast de afleveringen van Verborgen Verleden gekeken..... Hoeveel concentratie kampen waren er dan eigenlijk!

Weet niet of daar op WT iets mee gedaan wordt.

Kortom er is is nog zoveel te doen!

Ga toch maar gewoon slapen.
