I am Wanda Morissette Richards and I am a descendant of the Morissettes, Faures, Coxes, etc. of Manakintowne, Virginia. I know that many people that, even today, live in this area are the descendants of the original Huguenots, but their names have been Anglicized.
I am also interested in the Mayhew (Mahieu, Mayhue, Mahu) family that originally came to Maryland and then left Maryland and came to Virginia. Many of them came to Pittsylvania and Halifax families of Virginia. In particular, I'm interested in Drury (Drewry) Mayhew who was in Maryland, but the trail runs cold. I'm positive he's not the Drury Mayhew that lived in Massachusetts.
I know that there were problems between the Maryland Catholics and the Protestants and many Protestants escaped to Virginia. I'm sure that there were many Huguenots among these refugees.
Any information on these families is very welcome.
