G2G: Anyone need help with families from Gakovo or Bačko Dobro Polje, Batschka region of former Yugoslavia/Austria-Hungary?

Question

If anyone needs help looking for relatives from Gakowa (Gákova/Gakovo/Gádor) or Bačko Dobro Polje (Kischker/Kisker) in the Batschka region of former Yugoslavia/Austria-Hungary (now Serbia), I have the following books to look up information:

• Unvergessenes Kischker 11786-1944, Johann Lorenz, 1960
  Full of information, stories, name lists, house numbers, maps...
• Ortssippenbuch Gakowa (1763-1895), Johann Schnaterbeck, 1994.
• Ortssippenbuch Gakowa Teil II (1896-1943), Michael Hutfluss, 2002.
  Local Heritage Books part I and II - mainly extensive lists of names, birth/death/marriage dates and locations, some prints of original documents.
  
  Also, I'm currently in the process of adding the Falkenstein family from the following book:
• Chronik der Vorfahren und Nachkommen des Johann Friedrich Falkenstein aus Ilbesheim/Kirchheimbolanden seit 1786 Kolonist in Kisker/Batschka, Georg Heinrich Falkenstein, 2002.
  Information based on church registers, "Ahnenpaß"/ancestor passports and personal information of descendants.

There are probably even more books somewhere in the basement of my parents', I'll extend the list in this post once they turn up.

Thank you very much for your kind offer. I have a look-up, if you don't mind. Her name was 'Elisabeth Enzminger' or 'Enzmingen', but she may be listed as 'Elisabeth Sehne'. She was born in Kisker, Serbia, probably around 1890. Her husband, Samuel Sehne, was also born there in 1885. Any information would be appreciated.

I also have Enzminger and Sehne in my tree! I found two matching entries:

Elisabetha Enzminger, daughter of Georg Enzminger, born 16 Dec 1888, married to Peter Schneider

Elisabetha Enzminger, daughter of Philipp Enzminger, born 6 May 1890, married to Philipp Seene in Jarek

For the first entry, it could be that she married someone else before or after Samuel Sehne, and for the second, it could be an erroneous first name, or she married a brother first and then Samuel when that brother died, which was not too uncommon back then. However, there were also several Sehne/Seene families, so it could be someone else entirely.

I think I found Samuel in the book:
Samuel Sehne, born 10 August 1885, son of Johann Jakob Sehne (* 1855, x 29 Dec 1925) and Barbara Schwarz (* 1857, x 14 March 1926, daughter of Michael Schwarz and Rosina Paul). However, there's no information about the marriage. Let me know if you need me to look up more on his family line!

Samuel Seene, * about 1885 in Krtschedin. Profession: locksmith. Married to DERNER, Christina (born in Beschka) 1907 in Beschka. Parents: Samuel Seene and Katharina WACK.

My grand mother is Katarina Enzminger born 15 sept 1931. And all I know is her father is Jakob.All I know is that are all died from 1943-1948

We are the only family in Serbia now.

I'm looking for any mention of Reit[t]enbach families in Kischker. My ancestor Elisabetha Margaretha Reitenbach was said to have been born in Kishker on her death record in Neu-Freudental and the estimate of her age on said record leads to a birth date of 11 Sep 1787.

I've seen two possible fathers mentioned, one was a Heinrich Reitenbach from Asswiller though he appears in Tscherwenka and a Michael Reitenbach from Bärweiler who appears in Torschau.

Is there any mention of a Reitenbach family in Kisker that might match in being related to Elisabetha?

The Reitenbach family was one of the initial settler families in Kischker:

"Reitenbach Peter, Haus-Nr. 37, die Familie übersiedelte nach Crvenka. Der Kolonist stammte aus Bärweiler, Kreis Meisenheim, Regierungsbezirk Koblenz."

"Reitenbach Peter, house no. 37, the family moved to Crvenka. The colonist came from Bärweiler, district of Meisenheim, administrative district of Koblenz."

and

"Peter Reitenbach kam durch Wien am 24.5.1784 zusammen mit Nikolaus Reitenbach. Es ist anzunehmen, dass beide miteinander verwandt waren und sich in Forschau niederließen. Peter kam dann aber nach Kisker und wurde auf Nr. 37 angesiedelt. Angabe 1936 aus ßärweiler bei Meisenheim stammend Im Werbaser Matrikel 1787 als aus dem Fürstentum Salm abstammend angegeben. Die Nachkommen sind alle nach Altker abgewandert."

"Peter Reitenbach came through Vienna on 24.5.1784 together with Nikolaus Reitenbach. It can be assumed that both were related to each other and settled in Forschau. Peter, however, then came to Kisker and was settled at no. 37. In the Werbaser register of 1787, he was stated to be descended from the principality of Salm. Awesome! Hoping more of us join with our resources. I have books for my grandparents village of Kathreinfeld in the Banat region of what is now Serbia. I've done two look up requests but had no luck for them. Hopefully one day I will actually have info on someone and help their research along.

If you know the current Serbian name of the town, please add it. I had to google to find out the current name of Kathreinfeld. If you look in Serbia now for Kathreinfeld you don't have any luck with it. Today it's called "Ravni Topolavac" and with this name you can even locate it on google maps. I love to do that to know where the folks is from.

Yes, it can get very confusing... Is it former Yugoslavia, or Austria-Hungary? Does it belong to Serbia today, or to Hungary? I'm glad that for the family line I'm currently adding, someone else has already done extensive research. :)

Good day. I found your entry by chance while looking up information on Kischker  (Former Yugoslavia).  According to my paternal grandfather our family moved to Kischker from the Rheine Valley about 200 years ago and lived there until placed in detention camps during the second world War.  We believe my father was born in said camp.  Would you be able to check and see if there is an mention of the Römich family (Christian and Katarina - my grandparents  and Hermann and Adolf - my father and his brother who died young around the time of the war).  My grandparents passed away before I could completely understand the family story and I'm now trying to piece it together.  Sincere thanks in advance.

According to Familienbuch Kunbaja she also had 2 sisters living in Kunbaja: Marianna * ~1805 Gakowa & Katharina * ~1806 Gakowa.

Hi Alex,

unfortunately, there's not much information in the Gakowa books. I found the marriage between Philip and Anna, but no exact birth dates or parents. Anna had a second name: Maria and her maiden name Schäfer might also have been written "Schefer" in some sources.

Rosina is not listet at all, but her sisters Catharina (* ~1805) and Maria Anna (* ?) are. Maria Anna married Franz Nuber in Kunbaja on 13 November 1827.

Interestingly, the entry above Philipp and Anna Maria lists no parent names, but three children: Margretha (* ~1773), Theresia (* ~1776) and Philippus (* ~1777) that lived in Gakowa in 1784. That might well be the same Philipp, and while there are no parents listed, I hope that it still might be a hint that could help you make progress.

I am looking for information on the Valentin Nedler family.  Valentin married Eva Gatti/Gotti in Gakowa.  They lived out in the country. Can I be helped about this following person, who was one of my great-great grandmothers:

Anna Linder (born in 17.01.1830 in Karavukovo/Wolfingen, Bácska). Her parents were apparently Georg Linder and Elisabeth Schnaterbecher. Her husband was most likely József Kókai (born in either 1828 or 1829 in Topolya, Bácska). Her son was also called József Kókai (born in 21.03.1845 in Topolya, Bácska).

I'm looking for help with the ancestors of Johann Schneider , born on the 13th Nov.1893 in Titel , in Serbia to Peter Schneider & Barbara März.

In the Ortsfamilienbuch from Kischker they are listed as :

Peter Schneider ( 6956 ) * Titel

oo 07.02.1886 Kischker

Barbara März ( 4898 ) * 16.02.1862 in Kischker

The März family line I have been able to trace but have come to a brickwall with Peter Schneider.

Can anyone help or have any ideas on how I should proceed ?

Hello,

 My father's family comes from Galicia, my father was born in Stanisławów (today Ivano-Frankivsk in Ukraine). The first settlers established the village of Ugartsthal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugartsthal

I am interested in linking these Philipps from Banat to Philipps from Galicia.

 

I found information that Johann Adam Philipps left for the Banat in 1786 and settled in Kirschker. He came from Pfalzweyer in Lothringen and he was married in Berlingen (Lothringen). My family also came to Galicia from Lothringen - from the village Zilling (Zillingen), which is 5 km from Pfalzweyer, and they also were married in Berlingen... And my ancestor Johann Nikolaus Philipps also left Zilling in Lothringen in 1778. So they both must be a family. I suppose they were separated in Vienna – Johann Adam was sent to Batschka, and Johann Nikolaus to Galizien (Galicia), the territories just newly annexed by Austria.

 And there are more in my family tree Donasuchwaben like Katharina Phillips (born Becker) b. 3.08.1888 Bocar, Austria, Hungary, today Serbian Banat. She was married to Rudolph Philipps born in Ugartsthal (Galizien, Austria, Ukraine today). They lived in Los Angeles.

There are many others names Philipps on the list of the dead that lived once in Backa or Banat.
