G2G: Why does Isolde Mortimer have a father who is not a Mortimer?

Question

Spent the day at Much Marcle and did ask if anything further had surfaced about Isolde since apparently new evidence indicates that her first husband Walter de Baalun was executed. The answer was that it is not known who her parents were but she was very close kin to the infamous (or noble depending on how you look at it) Roger Mortimer, sister, half sister, possibly aunt or cousin, but a Mortimer. Quite a surprise when I saw what is on Wikitree. I note that this was discussed two years ago. Time for another discussion, I think.

Might mean very little but ODNB gives her father as Edmund Mortimer in article about her son,  Hugh Audley. If we are going to differ from this we need proper sources.

To make a long story short, Isolde's parentage is very much in doubt, and one of the key documents in this case may well have been forged.

There are many primary sources cited, and there appears to be no disagreement from anyone that Douglas Richardson has misinterpreted the sources.  Nor are there any later discussions with different information.

Since the first post was in December 2017, I suspect it would be after the ODNB article was written and may not have filtered down to Much Marcle.

I think we have to accept that Richardson is correct, and change Isolde's LNAB to Rous or Rus.
