Former investigative journalist, graphic designer, communications director, and teacher. My immediate family is small, only children on both sides, for at least two generations. I was surprised by all the ancestors I found.
I am currently researching areas of Georgia for branches of my tree, on my father's side. It appears my Sturdivants dropped from the sky in Schlatterville, Charlton County, Georgia in 1880.
For Heard family research, Joyce Poole's book is indispensible. I hail from Martha Rebecca Saxon 1859-1917 and John S Heard 1864-1921 whose daughter, Donie Heard married William Altie Bevery. Donie and Altie are my great grandparents.
Landers has proven a most interesting ancestral pursuit. My Traylors are very colorful as well, as are the Lemmonds, Hartleys, and Pittmans, Beverlys, Saxons, and Langs. Maternal brick walls are Lee and Carroll. I have not concluded my research into the surnames Bell, Perkinson, Ford, Singleton, Fowler, Harcrow, and Morris, but don't foresee any problems.
Paternally, I am working through families of Bulloch, Thomas and Charlton counties in Georgia. I am discovering a family connection for Primitive Baptist churches in the area. Lately I am connecting dna matches.
Dad also has surnames of Stone (thank goodness for Keith Stone's book), Knight, Howard, Harrell, Sheffield (thank you Myra Sheffield), Martin, Boone, Yeomans, Howell.).
I'm really learning my way around wikitree and I appreciate all suggestions or corrections.
My Sheffield and Lee ancestors are a very difficult research project.

On behalf of the leaders of Southern Colonies, this is the semi-annual polling for the US Southern Colonies Project. This check-in with members is to see if you have been active in the last six months in this project and want to remain a member of US SC?
Please note that it is a requirement for membership in the US Southern Colonies Project that you respond to these check-ins.
I look forward to hearing from you.. Many thanks,
Mary, Project Coordinator, - Membership US Southern Colonies Project
Now am I active in the project? I confess, I don't know how I would know that. I have not found anyone that fits the requirements for the project, born before 1776, in my family yet, at least not with enough confidence to commit them to wikitree. So I guess I am a hopeful project member? I will add anyone I find to the project, but thus far, that's not happening.
Does this make sense? I hope I'm still in the project, I'm doing the challenge coming up tomorrow with the Cornbread Catchers, I think they're part of the southern colonies project? And I've worked with the Black Heritage challenge in December. Isn't that also southern colonies? At least those I inputted were in Georgia, but not before 1776.
Thank you for contacting me! Marsha
Marsha, I took a peek at your ancestors, This is the first profile I checked out who falls within Southern Colonies: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Traylor-536 You could put the sticker on it.
Mississippi and Texas do not count as Southern Colonies. (I know as I have a bunch of profiles Mississippi and am from Texas.
Keep on plugging on your family.

You recently posted information regarding Cordelia Breed Traylor. I follow the Breed genealogy and I added some information about Cordelia Breed's family. I hope this was ok. Gerald Breed
I'm getting things lined up for the Thon tomorrow and don't find you in our Discord channel. Here's a link to the G2G Chat post.

Thanks again for being a Southern Super Sweepers Team member!!
After some reflection, the project leaders of US Southern Colonies project have decided to "retire" the Founding Families team idea as we realized it has too much overlap with other team members. It's more an activity of those teams. As a result, we need you to identify another team to join. Take a look here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:US_Southern_Colonies_Teams (and click through to specific teams for more details).
I know that the profile improvement teams could use some help.
Thanks!
Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.
Sources are very important here on Wikitree, especially on Pre-1700 profiles. It is how we show where we got the info and help others find it too. Find out more about sources here and more detailed info here.
Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.
If you have any questions, click reply below this message and I will get back to you.

Now, as a confirmed full member, you can add your family to our shared tree. Please start with our New Member How-To pages. They will save you time and energy as you add profiles.
