Mothers Day 2012. The first Mothers Day we were all together since 1984. We were at my aunt and uncle's house for a cookout. My uncle was running his mouth about how long he had the lawn chairs and the high quality etc.... About the time he stopped talking, the seat of the chair I was sitting on ripped out, resulting in my above predicament. My family, of course, took their fill of pictures before helping me up. My Dad is in the background, and he was laughing so hard he was crying. This will forever be known as The Great Chair Tragedy of Mothers Day 2012.

Funny shot, John.  Reminded me of climbing into a hotel bed in Spain and the bed collapsed.  I was only 110 lbs, not a large person.  The desk clerk said, yes, it has done that before.

My father Chick Lovelace kept my usually very serious mother laughing, and I have always known this was what charmed her into marring him. This is a photo of him doing a ballet pose taken in 1942, about the same time as they were married.

Pat, my mother did not believe in inherited personalities before she had me. I tend to think things are funny—a sense of humor like he had.

I think, Alexis, that your dad had a great sense of humor because he made a funny pose. He was relaxed enough to be goofy.  My dad's funny photos are him in a funny location or wearing a funny outfit. But posing, he couldn't do what your dad did in this photo, so I think he was a serious person at heart, perhaps more like your mom.  But I would do the goofy poses and he'd laugh. Like you, I find a lot of things funny.

My dad, John R. Miller, worked as a sailor on the cruise boats on Lake Huron in 1934 to earn money to attend university.  Manitoulin Island is Lake Huron's largest island.  This would be a stop over, goofing around time before returning to his uniform and duties on the boat.  What machinery he is posing on is a mystery to me but I suspect it has something to do with the building behind.

It looks like an old thrashing machine used to harvest grains. He seems to be enjoying it.

It's a grain binder used to cut grain and tie sheaves that were later threshed in a threshing machine.  The Amish near here still use them to harvest their small grains.

Me as the conniving, but not-too-bright used car salesman, Harry Wormwood, in the musical, Matilda, produced by the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company at the Bob Boldrick Theatre in Carson City.

This was in a photo album that came from my great-aunt, the picture was likely taken by her mother in the early 1900's. It's just labeled "Twin sisters", I don't know who's in it, or why they're by the hay stack, but it's the earliest example I have of somebody getting photo-bombed.
