G2G: Lone Star Christmas Challenge: Help Decorate the Texas Tree [closed]

Question

This holiday season, the Texas Project is doing their own take on a Holiday Challenge, and decorating our Christmas tree with something better than tinsel: improved profiles!

Every star on the Lone Star Christmas tree comes from a whole-profile review. The goal is to take one Texas-related profile and give it thoughtful attention from top to bottom.

How it works:

• Pick one profile connected to Texas, by birth, marriage, or death. Need ideas? Try helping a profile in the Texas, Maintenance Categories (profiles needing bios, more records, etc.).
• Review the entire profile: clean up the biography, fix sources, resolve suggestions, and add appropriate stickers and categories.
• When finished, submit the profile using the Lone Star Christmas tracker. Each completed profile adds a star to the tree.

As profiles are improved, the tree fills in with stars. The goal is to fill the tree for the holidays, one well-cared-for Texas profile at a time. You can submit either a WikiTree ID, such as Houston-1, or a full profile link, such as https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Houston-1. Each profile may be added only once, but each person can submit more than one profile.

Steven have you though of a little Texas Star we can put on the profile that we improved?  Or a little Community Event addition to our profiles?  Just ideas. Next year we need to start this earlier in the month, if we can. Merry Chrismas.

Hi Alice,

The focus of this challenge is the profile, not the activity around it. Once a profile is improved, it should simply stand as a better profile. Adding a marker does not add context about the person and does not make the genealogy stronger.

This is not about showing that the Texas Project, or any individual, worked on a profile. That value lives in the work itself. The tree is where we visualize the collective effort. The profiles are where the work lives.

Regarding starting sooner; Fair point, though full disclosure, the idea only popped into my head and came together yesterday

Checked with Santa Steve - you do not have to live in Texas or be a member of the Texas project to put a star on the tree.

Please, get me out of this nightmare - can someone stop this insanity? Who has time to keep unselecting the best answers? Don't you have better ways to spend your time on WikiTree? I spend my time sourcing profiles - you spend your time playing games. I sure hope you are not getting points.

This just doesn't make sense. Maybe it is time that we get Chris Whitten involved in this. I am sure he doesn't like this happening on his website.
