IDK about any symbol but we do have a Military and War Project: . We can add to the profile to look like Union: , and Confederate: w/ a state flag for that state & dates / Rank etc.

Here is the format we use: I copy & Paste it to profiles, then add Flags & Dates :) .

Thanks John,

Looks like you've covered it!!

here is the page link for future civil war templates: US Civil War: War Between the States Project  & here is the template we use:

 {{US Civil War

| enlisted = mmm dd, yyyy
| mustered = mmm dd, yyyy
| side = CSA or USA
| regiment flag = image file

| regiment name = regiment name}}

 Highlight the template, right click on it to Copy & right click again to Paste it to the top of the opened to edit profile. (this is easier if you have two wikitree pages open at the same time.).

 Just remove & replace enlistment , mustered dates. remove CSA or USA accordingly.

To add flag: On the US Civil War page below the template is highlighted word in green "FLAGS" click it, it takes you to this page: US Civil War: War Between the States Flags .

Scroll down find the State flag needed. Copy all behind the " = " (Highlight the letters, Right click & Copy then right click to paste it to the specific place for "image file" in the template, then remove the words "image file" in the template.) Save the changes to the profile. Click on top right profile name & number to check your work. Have fun repeat :) JPVIV

There are several things. We have a template for the project that has a place where you can indicate which side was fought for. We also have an image that served as sort of a profile badge when we first started. You can find everything listed on our project page. There are many images on the project photo page that you are welcome to use, as well. Let me know if you need help.

If you don't know any particulars or are unable to find them, you may wish to go to the vet's profile and copy their Wiki ID (example: Surname-Number).  Then go to  click edit and paste that Wiki ID into where it says "Add person or free-space profile:".  This will place that image on their profile and you can then decide where on the profile you wish to display it.

How about using the medal that members of the fraternal order of the Grand Army of the Republic wore?  There is also a similar medal for Confederate veterans.  My browser won't let me load the pics so I'll forward directly to John V. and Paula. Thanks, Steve F
