I have an Andrew Jackson York in my family tree. I too am having difficulty finding information. I know he made it to California and with a brother established York Winnery. Which iis today’s Epoch winnery. The original York Winnery was evidently destroyed by an earthquakeand was left in dilapidation until the Epoch people restored the winnery. There is still a portion of the original house they saved and incorporated into their new home. It is located at 7505 York Mountain Road, Templeton, CA.
The York winery was established in 1882.
In 1882 is when Andrew Jackson York purchased the 120 Acre homestead.
He was an Illinoian. He had three sons. Some articles say he was from Indiana. Some where I read he was born in Tennessee, so basically, I don’t have much information. I am still searching and researching my York line and have hit so many walls. My ancestors of York’s, I believe originated in Olney, England and came to Randolph County, North Carolina. I have a long way to go and I am in my 70’s,. Want to leave tree for my two grandsons.
Don’t know if this helps you, or just leads you astray. I myself was born in Southern Illinois. I wish you much luck. It is a struggle and one can get led in so many “York” directions and paths.
Be blessed and if you could please advise if we Are”crashing” the same Andrew Jackson York. Thank you.
As Always,
Judy York-Lauver
