This is a 1919 photo of Hugh and Eunice Hennen. They are my husband's maternal grandparents. They were together for over 55 years until he passed away. I was always amazed at how loving they were to each other. They slept in a double bed together, and even their only child said she never heard a cross word between them.

Thank you Susan, yes they were a very sweet couple. One time when she and I were in the car alone, she told me that she and Hugh had been able to do everything they wanted to do. She said that they enjoyed their trips to Canada, and that was as far away as they wanted to go.

I love this photo!  I agree with Jennifer's comment. How often do we find a such a 'romantic' picture that depicts a love with an intense feeling of deep affection!  The photographer was very creative indeed! Well done Alexis!

Scott, if it is true that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. She certainly must have made him a happy man, because she was the best cook I have ever known. Also Scott, you are right about whoever did this photo in Tulsa was good.

This photo was taken during the 60th Wedding Celebration of my maternal grandparents, Otis and Bertha Witcher in November 1962.

They had another three anniversaries before my grandfather died, and I believe they were as happy together then as when they married.

This is a photo of my husband's parents, Mary Hutchen and Richard Loake Richard proposed to Mary on Valentine's day 1934 and they were married on Valentine's day 1935. This photo was taken at their daughter's wedding in 1964, they look very happy!

My third great grandparents, James Urban Gould & Mary Ellen Proctor, celebrated 50 years of marriage, not a small feat.

The romance started in 1962 ... the union of Marguerite "Rite" Marie Kulhavy (1941) and William "Bill" Dale Sims (1941) took place in 1963.  So, now it is getting close to the 60th.

I have long searched for suitable photos on this theme and thought about which photo I can take, because in most photos the people always look very serious and formal, whether it is a wedding, silver wedding or gold wedding photo.
And then I had to laugh at myself: The solution was quite simple.
There is a photo of my parents, Heinz Gustav August Lewerenz and Hannelore Gisela Beumer (nee Grabow), coming out of the church in Havixbeck, Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, after the church wedding in 1957.

Most of my photos are exactly as you described, but this shot captures the essence of this weeks theme, I think.  At first I wasn't sure about the theme but look at all of the interesting posts!  Hats off to Eowyn!  Your father was a very handsome dapper kind a guy and he loved Gisela!  How romantic and thanks for sharing their wedding photo with us.

I remember my grandfather's sister Ella as a practical woman, inclined to be bossy and opinionated. But once she was young and pretty. Don't you suppose that the book she is reading is a romance?

I loved my mother dearly, she was beautiful (perhaps too), smart (perhaps too), and compassionate!  She was married to five outstanding guys..musicians to doctors.  She was never a flirt, too striking for that...but wait a minute..here she is making a move on a young handsome sailor at three and not without some tough competition.  Oh yes, did I say my mother was romantic (perhaps too)!

This is a photo of my Great-Granparents Charles L. Bobbett & Frances D. Bobbett (Butler). This photo was taken on one of their anniversaries. They were married for 63 years until Charles passed away in 2002 at 86 years old. His wife Frances, who the younger members of the family called "Grandma Fran" passed away in 2006. Also at the age of 86. She is the only Great-Grandparent that I have clear memories of.

James Ross Bird wrote an acrostic poem to Margret Stillwell on 14 Feb. 1852. The were married in July of the same year. The text of the poem can be found on Margaret's profile:

So great to have a photo like this!  BTW I had an uncle with the last name of Betts, he lived in Fresno, California, worked for the police and when he retired he moved to Southern Oregon to live on my grandfather's ranch.  Thanks!

My great grandparents, Donald and Joan Peasley, on their wedding day. He was a World War II veteran. The was the daughter of a farmer who got employed in the city. They worked in the same State Farm. It was one rainy night that Donald offered Joan a ride. She said yes, and it started their journey. They were married for nearly 60 years, had three daughters (one of whom they tragically outlived), three granddaughters, and three great grandchildren by the time of Don’s passing in 2008.

This is my aunt Lois and uncle Morris on their last Valentine's Day together, 2020. They were married 62 years. She was also a Valentine's day baby.

John Thoren and Hulda Nelson married in Nov. 1905 and though I never met them, they are my favorites of my husband's gg aunts and uncles. They never had children of their own, but were constantly photographed lovingly with nieces and nephews, and so obviously adored each other.

This is the only known photo of my Great Grandparents, Jack Hanford & Fyrn Watkins. Jack Hanford was the son of two well-known vaudevillian actors & Fyrn was an actress and singer herself. She would succumb to tuberculosis at the age of 34.

So happy......and yet with a mix of sadness in the story. My uncle was a stage actor there, at the time, and I find him a cousin to Jack.....both of them Jack.....my Kathy being a closer cousin to Jack and one connection from being an even closer cousin to Fyrn.
