Margaret Wentworth is a descendant of several Magna Carta surety barons (see text below).

Biography

Margaret Wentworth was the daughter of Roger Wentworth, Esq., of Nettlestead, Suffolk, and Margery le Despenser, daughter and heiress of Philip Despencer, Knt.^[1][2] Her date and place of birth are unknown, her birth date is estimated to be about about 1430.^[3]

Margaret married William Hopton, Knt.,^[1] son and heir of John Hopton (or Swillington), Knt., by his first wife, Margaret Saville. They married about April 1451.^[2] They had one son and three daughters.^[4]

• Agnes (or Anne), married Robert Clere, K.B., and had five children. Agnes died 23 January 1505/6.^[2]
